Help needed with gears

Well, from the knowledge I've gathered in the past few months is....if you plan on adding a Supercharger of some sort in the future, you want to go with the 373's.

It seems to me, most ppl go with the 410's if they're going to stay NA, I would (and I'm doing the same) go with the 410's, from all the research I have done, says 410's, now I dont do hardly any highway driving, so I dont have to worry about gas mileage (from what I've read, gas mileage only goes away by 2 or 3 mpg with the 410's, depending how much your foot is in it).

I honestly feel 410's are the best bang for the buck and will make a HUGE difference in the car, I think 373's would make a pretty big difference but no where even in the same zip code as the 410's would.

As far as what you need to get with the gears, When I buy my gears, I'm going to buy the "Kit" it comes with everything needed to do a gear change.....

Kit includes:
1 Ford Racing Performance Parts 4.10:1 gearset
1 Master bearing kit (includes pinion & carrier bearings, pinion seal, ring gear bolts, pinion nut, crush sleeve, shims, and marking compound)
1 bottle of Ford Racing Performance Parts Friction Modifier
2 bottles of Royal Purple 75W90 gear oil

Now this is the "1986-11 Mustang 8.8" 4.10 Ratio Rear End Gear Kit With Ford Racing Gears - " from Late Model Restoration. American Muscle has the same kit basically, in the pic it shows the shims, the gasket, everything needed for the install. LMR has the kit for 259.99 + 14.95 shipping. Not sure what AMs price is, I think its a bit more, but they offer free shipping, I'll be doing my research for the best price before I buy, I suggest you do yours too

No matter what gears you buy, you will need a tune to correct the speedo and the shiftpoints etc...

Can't talk the tech of the install but 3.73 if you might add forced induction later, 4.10s if you plan to stay naturally aspirated.

Adding 4.10s to my '01 GT was the single greatest decision I ever made... well... as far as the car goes anyway.

Agreed depending on N/A or F/I you would want to buy gear accordingly. As for install kits M-4210-B from FRPP would be ideal especially if your car has more then 35K miles on it. As for oil you can use Ford gear oil and don't forget the friction modifier or Royal Purple synthetic gear oil no modifier is needed.

I am installing the 4:10 gears myself but I do have the tools and experance on tap. Checking around though it would seem that labor runs from 200 low to 400 high with reputable instalers. If you pay for a install get a guarntee that there will be no gear whine.

At 3,800 miles you don't need an install kit.

I have 4.10's with a supercharger, but it's a centrifugal which needs the gears to get it into it's power band. I often think 4.30's or 4.56's would have been better (I had 4.30's in my '03 Mach 1 and they rocked). Don't fear the gear!

One thing to keep in mind is that the stock tire diameter (27.25) for 05+ Mustangs is overer 1.5" taller than the 94-04 cars (25.66)... what that means is that you can run more gear (4.10/4.30) and get similar results. i.e most 94-04 cars would use the 3.73 NA / 4.10 FI rule because of the limited top speed in 4th gear and/or higher rpms in fifth gear.

Using a gear ratio / tire size calculator and 4.10's / 4.30's you would be able to do 128 / 122 mph in 4th gear and turning 2350 / 2450 rpms @ 75 mph in fifth gear.

IMO 4.30's or probably even 4.56's are the best way to go if you plan on staying NA.
