Help on Identifying a carb..

Well, I know this may not be the best place to ask this question but I have tried the brand X sites and got nothing so I will try here.

My Dad has a rochester Carb that is supposedly of a 427 Chevy...sorry...but he is not sure. I have tried to decode the carb but the numbers dont match. I have searched everywhere and keep coming up with nothing that matches completely. So here goes. Any help would be appreciated!!!

The location of the number below the secondaries is supposed to be a 7037931 number or simular, but this number appears on the rear of the carb instead. Translated it comes out to a 1967 cadilac with A.I.R. with a manual tranny, but the 5th digit "9" does not make sence. Also, the number under the secondary is actually 29204 FF... Funny thi9ng is that if it were 7029204 it would be off a 69 427 vette...that would be a good find but there is no way it could have the "70" in front of it.

The carb is stamped with GM RP in several locations... I think thta means GM Repair production...like a dealer replacement...am I correct?

Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are all the numbers that can be found on the carb.

37935
29204 under the secondary linkage
FF 0909
7037931 on the back of the carb with a circle around it it says GM/ RP in front of
the circle
BP 29865
RP 36021


Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Actually had been to all three of those sites, they all pretty much say the same thing but none of them tell me what the GM RP means or what the "9" digit is for.

Thanks again....

Its funny I have not even recieved one response off the brand "X" sites.... and this is supposed to be a GM carb...
Man I love my stangs!!!! And the poeple that drive them..well love might be to strong

First of all, I can't name a 67 caddy that had a manual tranny.

ID 7037931

702 = 65-69 California and altitude applications

7 = Last numeral of application year or 1967

9 = 5th digit is 1 or 2 denoted federal application and 4 or 5 California application

3 = Division, 3 being Cadillac, 1,1 and 2 being Chevy.

1 = transmission usage, said to be unreliable.

Are you sure the 5th digit is a 9 instead of a 4 or 5?

The FF 0909 might be a service replacement date with would be the 90th day of 1969. I an guessing that you may just be reading the 5th digit wrong, as everything else points the the Caddy carb.

I have rechecked the fifth digit several times as it does not make sense, and it is definitely a "9". Also the location of the number is wrong, everything I have found says it should be on the secondary behind the linkage vertically, My number is on the back of the carb.
I am not an expert but I could not remember a manual caddy in that time frame either, so I assumed that was probably unreliable. I wold certainly appreciate it if you could send an email to the author.

Well, I got a response, and he said that he thought that it might be the chevy carb, but he responded on a Blackberry, so I am not sure he saw the whole message. I will ask him next time he calls. Sorry, nothing conclusive.

He took his time to try to figure it out but was unable to identify the carb. Thing is the guy spent his valuable time helping me so I figured I would return the favor by putting his name and number on here.

So anyway...back to the drawing board. Anybody have any ideas??

Can't find that number at all. The RP just means Rochester Products.

Thanks... at least thats something. One of the Brand X sites has given me some info...

"It's not a new replacement, but original and likely rebuilt by someone that has a carb dip tank, based on the coloring of the body and the "aged" look of the throttle linkage. That's good as the rebuilder likely knew what he was doing.

There are a couple areas that need looking at to determine if it's worthy. One, if you were to unscrew the fuel inlet, look to see if the threads in the carb body are crumbling, or look like they have ever been cross threaded. Either of those conditions pretty much dooms it.

The second thing to look at is slack in the primary (front) throttle linkage. Grab it and see if there is much up and down movement. If it seems fairly snug it's fine. If you can see and feel up and down movement it will never idle right without professional help (drilling and sleeving the shaft bore). "

But still no determination of exactly what it is...oh well... Thansk again!!!!
