Help removing h pipe bolts

I tried installing my upr x pipe today but I was unable to remove the nuts connecting the h pipe to the header. I used an extension and pulled as hard as I could but they would not budge, I was using just a regular 1/2" ratchet, do I need to go buy a big breaker bar, its hard to get much leverage laying on your back, I dont want to but I could drive it down the road to the ford dealer to get installed but they will probably be closed for a few days due to the hurricane and I want to get this done. I sprayed a bunch of rust remover on the bolts hopefully it will help loosen them, is the PB blaster so much better that I should try it? Any tricks you guys know to get those nuts off? Thanks!

This is exactly why I'm planning to pay Midas to install it.

I think a lot of people use PB blaster, thats what I am planning on using this weekend when I install my mustangtuning o/r x pipe. Good luck man.

dunno didnt had problem removing mine, then again i had it on a lift and used a air compressor

I just installed the Bassani X-pipe. The only bolt that I had trouble with was the one next to the starter. A standard 15mm deep socket is too long to fit. It hits the floorpan. Get a shorter socket. I found one at Home Depot. I sprayed the bolt and then drove the car another week before trying a second time. It then came right off with the 3/4 length 3/8 drive 15mm deep socket, then a 3/8 U-joint followed by a 1/2in converter and several extensions. Keep constant pressure on it and it will break loose.

put a box-end wrench over the end of your ratchet and it'll give you more leverage. Leverage is the key here. Also, try to tighten the nut about an 1/8th of a turn or so, then back it off. If it gets stuck again, repeat the process.

To me it doesn't sound like you have access to an air compressor.

If you can get to one, that's your best bet. It saved my A$$.
Also another thing that helps out is a set of swivel sockets, or if you don't have those either, a 1/2 drive impact wrench with a 1/2 to 3/8 adaptor and a 3/8 drive swivel, a few extensions and deep well socket will work just as good. Spraying the bolts with WD-40 is also a good idea. Don't forget to get a new exhaust gasket from the dealer if your new pipe didn't come with one.

P.S. Wait for the exhaut to cool down before you start.

use about a foot or so, maybe more extension and try going in from the wheel well with a swivel joint, take the wheel off and you have alot more room to move.
make sure you soak those bad boys with penetrating oil or something like that. you can also use a metal bar and hammer to jar them a little. That can help out alot. just stay with it and you will get it eventually. a cheater pipe withe the ratchet helps too .

I had the same problem with that same bolt and I hit it with some penetrating oil every 10 min for an hour then I heated up the nut with a torch and used a closed end wrench on my ratchet and used all the strength I had and it POPPED loose.. good luck

a good soak of pb blaster or wd-40 overnight should help give it time to penetrate.

i said penetrate.. hehe hehe hehe

The bolts came right off the next day after letting it sit all night with rust penetrater on them. I got a little wet with the hurricane and all but the x pipe sounds great. Havent had a chance to get on it yet because the roads are wet but I'm sure I gained some hp.
