Hey everybody. I just finished stripping and painting some 69 Torino emblems for the front quarter panels on the Stang. I used touch up paint from ford with no primer (I guess I'll re-do them If I should) and they look really good. I was just wondering how I should seal them so the paint will last for awhile. All I can find is spray clearcoat which I don't want to spray on the entire emblem because I think the clearcoat may start to chip off of the chrome around the edges of the emblem. Has anyone else painted emblems? Did you seal them or clearcoat them? PLEASE....I really can't wait to see how they look on the car! Any help would be really appreciated.

Nate

OK...I'll clearcoat it, but my question also involves HOW. I found clearcoat spray at the hobby store but its in a spray can and I'm afraid that it will flake off of the parts of the emblem that ARENT painted and look bad. I was looking for clearcoat that I could just brush onto the painted part of the emblem but I can't find it. Will the spray stick to the chrome of the emblem ok? Also, does anybody think I NEED to use primer before putting the touch up paint on the emblem. I'll go back if I have to because I want these emblems to last. Thanks!

just lightly sand it a bit be4 u spray the clearcoat on. maybe that would keep it from flaking off the unpainted spots (assuming u use the clearcoat in the spray can). correct me if im wrong and this wouldnt work!

Best way is to tape off the chrome will be tedious but it's the best way. Another route you can take is to take a piece of clean cardboard of heavy paper spray the clearcoat on till it creates a puddle and use a fine brush to "paint" it on. Problem with that is you will need to sand it so it's smooth or flat otherwise you'll see brush marks if you look at it closely.
