Well, I've had my coilover system (gr40 on koni yellows) for a while and ive decided the 350 lb springs are way too harsh.
It took me long enough to realize this. Will going with 150lb coilover springs in the front give me a more bump friendly ride? I do not have coilovers in the back so im running mach 1 shocks/struts with griggs springs ( do not know the spring rate) but my mechanic said they match the 350lb springs in front, so im guessing theyre 750 lb. can i soften the front and keep the back stiff?

thanks.

350lbs in the front? I was thinking my H&R Supersports were like 625lbs in the front and 2XX lbs. in the rear.

no theyre griggs springs, coilover springs of 350lbs are like 750 lb springs located onthe control arm.

should i downgrade to 150lb?

Stiffness between a coil spring setup and a coilover setup is different. I heard you take what the coilover rate is and multiply it by 3.6 to get a comparison in stiffness to a coil spring, therefore 350 is quite stiff. I just received my MM front coilover kit with 350 springs and will be using them with cobra R valved bilstein.s

1fast03pony

the mach 1 dampers are too soft for a coilover kit. I asked multiple mustang shops and Maximum Motorsports about running a 350 and even a 300 coilover kit with my bullitt struts in front and they repeatedly said don't do it. With a better damper I bet it wouldn't be as harsh. 150 springs would be extremely soft. At least get 225's. Are you running coilovers in the rear with the mach 1 tokicos?? any pics of your car?

I spoke to griggs racing, and they said the culprit is probably my SINGLE adjustable koni's, so buying DOUBLE adjustable struts would help. im assuming, single adjustable struts are alot more harsh because the bound strength is not adjustable (and is set stiff).
They say the springs are not too harsh. they are saying the dampers (koni yellow s/a) are they culprit. I am probably going to swap out the singles and put in double adjustables. what do you think?

those are very expensive struts. me thinks you should look for a better way.

I don't have coilovers but I just have a hard time thinking you have to have the most exepsive strut on the market to make them work.

I think I would try like a 250 or 275 spring firtst.

I guess I am just having a hard time thinking how the re-bound ajustability is going to make the ride less harsh. the harshness would be mainly from the intial bump.

I say go with the Tokico Illumina 5-ways which also should fit that coilover kit. That way instead of 2 adjustments you have 5, and you can pay about 320 shipped for 2 new struts instead of mid-high 400's. The tokico illumina's are very popular so I think they'll be fine, just double check with griggs that they will fit your kit (MM's fits both, so theirs should too).

he is refering to koni double ajustables. They are a higher end product thatn the Illumia's. they don't have 2 settings they have multilbe setings and you can ajust the re-bound as well. very nice stuff just mainly for race oriented stuff.

they are like $279 a piece though. to of those is more than I paid for all 4 of my bilsteins.

thanks for the clarification, i was just suggesting the tokicos because more people have them and are happy with them, and koni's are known all around to be pretty stiff.. I like stiff personally, and i've got an MM coilover kit with cobra R valved bilsteins sitting in my bedroom, but I've ridden in cars with tokicos and they ride pretty well

let us know what you end up with

how do your bilsteins ride with your SS springs? Im very confused at to what to do next. I was thinking these konis would be perfect but i was very wrong.
I just want a decent ride its shaking my car to ****. the headlights are loose i think now too. any ideas? theyre griggs 350lb sprigns in the front lowered about 1.5 inches, a little less than the H&R SS springs.
