Two of my FMS valve cover studs broke off in the head and I can't get them out. This is really pissing me off. I might be able to get one out but the other looks like its stuck in pretty good. Can I run a gasket and gasket sealer on the valve cover to keep it from leaking in the area that I'll be missing a bolt? Would that even keep it from leaking.

I had the whole weekend to do my fox throttle body swap and I've spent all day on these frickin valve cover bolts.

You need a set of screw extractors for that size bolt. Sears sells them, and they work wonders.

Usually a left-hand drill bit will get them out w/o anything fancy, unless you crossthreaded them, then you need to drill and re-tap them.

Well, I let them soak in penetrating lubricant and tried my screw extractor, that didn't work at all. I originally thought that the stud was bottoming out in the head and then broke off, but I think the threading might be different.

Now I've got the head off and I'm bringing it to a machine shop tomorrow. Who knew a valve cover bolt could be such a pita!
