I know i have a 1969 mustang fastback. But not alot else..
This is what i was told.. It had a 351C... It has the 4 barrel heads(saw the "4" stamped in the corner of the heads) and a wiend tunnel ram with 2 x 4 holleys on it. I wanna know more, like what year of heads, and what they are off of.. How do i know if the block is 351 and not a 428. Where do i look for the casting # on the block, and what do all the casting numbers mean? And what did this car origonally come with? What do the numbers/letters on my sn mean?
ANY help would be so much appeciated.

The 351C didn't come into production until 1970, so if it's one of these then it's not original.

One of the easiest ways to tell them apart is the thermostat housing in the 'C' goes into the block, the Windsor's is in the intake manifold. Don't know about the BB's.

(Windsor & Cleveland are slightly innacurate ways of labelling the engines as the Windsor plant closed/shifted production to 'Cleveland' around the time the 302's came into existence *I think* and were thus 'Cleveland's also!)

Post the VIN (minus the last 5 digits if you like - they're just the production number) and we'll tell you what it originally had. An original door tag will help also

Sounds to me like you've got a 4 bbl headed Cleveland, and those heads won't bolt onto a 428. Different engine families, virtually nothing interchanges except for the carb and distributor cap. I don't recall where the casting #'s are on Cleveland heads, possibly inside the valve covers, those will give tell you what 4 bbl heads you have ( casting #'s) and when they were made ( date code)

351C heads casting #'s are on the bottom of the intake ports. you'll have to pull the intake off and use a mirror to see them.

ok.. I got some more info, but still need to know what it is.
The heads have the "4" in the corner. and inside under the valve cover is a 2a12 stamping.. The intake is off and i use a mirror to read the letters under the heads. I think it said DJZE. BUT.,. the J may be a 1... it was real hard to read.. on both heads..

Also.. my SN is 9f02h1 misus the last 5 digits.

I'll go see if the door stamping is still in tact..
And one last thing.. where on the block are the casting numbers?

2A12 is January 12 1972, making them 72 heads. D1ZE 72 heads are the "CJ" heads, open chambers. Should be a "DA" suffix somewhere on the head. I believe the block numbers are above the starter.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
