I am doing this right now. But I am using a complete drive train from a 2001 GT. Here is how it pretty much is going to be.

Take an 81 notch and a 2001 GT. Strip both cars to a metal bath tub. Take all 4.6L stuff put on the 81 body. This includes the dash, the seats, the COMPLETE harness from headlights to tail lights. All braking system, ABS, traction control, emmissions, all brake lines, all fuel lines, gas tank, rear axle, driveshaft engine trans......EVERYTHING!!

The only thing from a FOX body I am using is as follows:

Front lower control arms (they are 3/4" shorter AKA: wheels won't stick out)

V-8 fox body struts (4cyl will work but you need a spacer between the spindle and the strut mount because the opening is bigger)

Inner tie rods. They are shorter (using the 94-04 inners are too long and it doesn't let you turn the wheel lock to lock. The brakes hit the rest of the suspension)

The major dilemna for my swap was getting the dash in. 10 hours of fabrication, my dash fits like new.

The minor dilemna was mounting the new gas tank and gas tank neck. Had to use the 01 gas tank mount brakets (which are welded to car) and reweld them on the 81. The tank neck is longer also due the longer trunk depth of the 94-04's. I had to cut it in half and shorted it, and reweld it.

The next dilemna was steering. The 94-04 cars uses a bearing in a plate in the firewall. I had to cut that section out and weld it into the firewall of the 81. The column runs through this, and without it, their would be no way to turn this car due to the shaft bouncing all around.
