i have pretty much decided to do a gt40p set-up. i will be keeping the stock fuel system and mass air for now. i just need help deciding what part will be need. i have come up with the follow so far.

gt40p's
roller rockers
intake manifold
strut tower brace
cam
timing gear and chain
water pump
valve covers
oil pan
oil sending unit
gaskets
fuel pres. reg.
walbro 255 (stock one is going)

i know there are some more things, but thats all i can think of at the moment. i would also like to try this without a chip. then later i would get 24#'s with a mass air, TB and dyno tune. Any advise would be awesome. Also, i have to do the oil pan and valve cover b/c they are rusting and the gasket are starting to go.

i would like to stay aroung $1500-$2000 which should be possible. i just need to figure out what parts will work awesome together before i start buying.

thanks

p.s. i have done a search for this topic and have gotten alot of ideas, but i would like us to all figure out an awesome set-up.

You will need special headers to fit on those heads. Only thing I noticed. Good Luck!

MAC LTs will fit P heads.

gt40p's - Junkyard off 5.0 Explorer
roller rockers - Pedestal mount, ratio depends on cam
intake manifold - your choice....GT-40, Street Heat, Performer
strut tower brace - take it off and leave it off
cam - search on corral for good cams with P heads
timing gear and chain - Rollmaster from Ed C. is real good and cheaper than FMS
water pump -
valve covers - stock?
oil pan - stock?
oil sending unit - parts store?
gaskets - Fel-Pro 1250 (intake), Fel-Pro 1415 (exhaust), Fel-Pro 1645 (valve cover), timing cover/water pump gasket set, head gaskets
fuel pres. reg. - Kirban
walbro 255 (stock one is going) - www.musclemotors.com

pushrods, lifters, head bolts...

I almost went the GT40 route..Knowing what you see with those heads, they can be purdy decent...now if you going just stock GT40s, thats cool....But if you start playing with em, like machine work, new valves/springs/seal, port em up..then it could get pricey...depends on what your getting the heads for $$$ wise??? You can wrap up alot of money real quick...Hence Alums for 999.00 can be mighty enticing.

I had Thumper price me out a set of tweaked GT40s...all good hardware...was like 600.00 just to set em up....add the price to buy the heads...see where im going....Granted they a prolly killer heads...but you can easily drop 900.00 before you know it...

Get the full Fel-Pro engine gasket set...its well worth it...you get everything for the motor...you name it...its in there....89.00 or so..

shop the classifieds and you can prolly get there for 1500.00..Add a nice balancer to your list...

Have fun picking and choosing.....

i had planned on getting mac longtubes anyway. i heard someone say once that there is a website with gt40p's with good hardware for around $500-600. i don't know which one it is though. a balancer is a good idea too.

If you need to stay with emissions, be sure to get P heads drilled for use an a Stang, and get an intake with EGR passages in it. Explorer intakes from a 95-early 97 have the internal EGr passages and the 65mm TB can be converted pretty easy for use on your Stang too.

Just curious what the cost of a GT40p "top end kit" is compared to the TFS top end kit at 2k.

new gt40p's - 575.00 plus shipping?
roller rockers - $200
intake manifold - $350? (I have Cobra intake for sale if I go TFS)
cam - $150?
timing gear and chain - $
valve covers - $
gaskets - $
Total?
