Help with a noise

Can somebody help me out and tell me what this noise is? I want to make sure I know what it is before ordering parts for it. Thanks.

sounds were hard to hear but,,,could be tie rod end/ball joints need grease,,do 1 at a time to find the noise,,


than 1 at a time spay wd40 on rubber bushings,,,

is the car been lowered? also noises can travel,,it can be on the other side coming across the car....

a good metal to metal rub can be found with a sethoscope,,or with hand to feel for viberation/friction... get someone to push car while you feel around,,,good luck

Thanks for the advice I'll definatly try it out. The noise does come from both sides of the vehicle and the cars has not been lowered... yet. Some other information is that it does it when I turn and obviously when going over bumbs. Thanks for the suggestions.

with the car being lowered it puts stess where it wasnt made for,and things wear out faster or get overheated...


if by chance you dont find the noise after greasing the ball joints and tie rods,,and spraying wd40 on sway bar links and frame mounts ..than you need to look at what was done to coil springs,,,were they cut or changed? and is the sping insulator still their..ect.....

really it should be easy to find,,,




my guess is the lower ball joints.....your noise happens while sitting still..at this point the ball joint is holding the weight of the car,,the tie rod has more movement and would show with just turning the wheel,, the rack and pinion bushings can do the also,,

Was in Michigan last week and wasn't able to work on my car. Now I have and must ask how do you grease the tie rod ends? What do you need to do this? Thanks for the help.

lube

sometimes you will come across non-greasable parts,,,but it should have a grease zerk ,,if not wd40 spayed into to joint show work to stop noise temporary,as will spraying all parts..just remember 1 at a time,,puch car a couple of times before spraying another part,,,helps so you dont miss the bad part,,,

seeing where you live,,rust is a killer,,im from the jersey shore and between the ocean and the salt used on roads for snow......frozen joints are common

Get some silicone spray.

Spray liberally in these places.

-Both busings for the front sway bar
-All bushings on the endlinks
-Inner bushings for both fron A arms
-Around and what you can get under the the upper strut bushing in the engine bay

Then bounce the front end up & down several times. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then spray all those places again. Then go drive around for a while to give the lube a chance to seep in and see if it gets any quieter.

Alright finally got around to spraying the bushings and everything and I think that I have gotten it narrowed down to two places. I'm pretty sure that its either the tie rod ends or the ball joints. Is there a way that I can find out which one it is with out having to buy a part first? Thanks.

spray more..but just do the ball joint on the right... jacking up on the car now might not be good,cause it could change the noise, but placing a floor jack under control arm and just take the weight off the ball joint and try pushing again while its jacked up,,,


i would use a sethoscope to listen for creak,,we add a vaccum hose to make longer..place the tube flat on whatever you want to here..

Well I put lowering springs and nwe shocks and struts on my car yesterday and after I was done I took it for a spin and there was now unwanted noises to be heard. When I had the spring out I pin pointed it to the ball joint but when all was completed the noise was gone? I'm not sure what to think.

lowering the car changed the angle of ball joint and tie rod
along with having car jacked up to work on, might have made you lose your noise...
but im not saying the noise wasnt coming from struts or anything else...

give it some time and see what happens..if it comes back you will know where to start looking..

i stumbled across this link...it has a good moving discriptions of bump steer, and how parts move up and down...i thought it was cool,,
