Help with Diablo Sport Tuning on Mach 1

I have a 2003 Mach 1 and it has the following.

4.10 gears
BBK CAI
Magna Flow Cat Back System
Diablo Sport Tune

I installed the Performance tune which was included with the tuner. Is there anything else that I should adjust in order to get more power out of my car or will this tune adjust everything the way it should be. I ordered a custom tune through www.fordcustomtuning.com. I am still waiting on it. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could adjust myself.

I don't know anything about the Diablo Sport. I have a X-Cal 2. You should be able to add timing and fuel just like the X-Cal. You should probably have your dynoed and your air/fuel ratio check to see where it's at. You'll be able to tune it more at the dyno. Pearl02.

If your car is an automatic, you can firm up your shifts. I did it on my GT and it made a difference. Just up the shift pressure & torque modulation.

There is a lot of things you can change:

Gear ratio, to get your 4:10 speedo cal.
Rev Limiter
Spark Advance

And tons more...Advance your timing

I would'nt touch anything until you get that new tune in and see what it shows on the dyno. I would'nt advance your timing blindly either. With just the performance tune on the dyno, advancing my timing anymore lost power. My timing was actually retarded from the Predator tune. If you have a 5 speed, no need to touch the rev limiter which is 6,800. All your useable power will be at 5,800-6,000RPM's.

Agreed. Wait on the custom tune, have the car dyno-ed, and have the custom tune tweaked based on those results as many times as is necessary. Do not advance timing blindly, since you may cause your knock sensors to engage prematurely.

Mine is a GT however my timing is maxed out at both rpm ranges with no detonation. This mosdef gave a noticable diff on the pants-o-meter. I back it out when I am spraying so I do have a good basis of comparison.

Definately lower the fan temps for both low and high fan speed. Be sure to lower them both by the same amount.

If you had a wideband you could do a lot....heck you could tune your car.

...for anybody else who is interested, the Predator and Excal2 do the exact same thing. The Excal has 1 advantage, can hold 3 tunes, otherwise the Predator allows you to do more. I have both and I like the Predator better.

So if I have a wideband (one that also datalogs) and a handheld tuner, is it possible to tune every aspect of the car myself without having to pay $500 for a custom dyno tune?

I always thought that there were certain things/parameters that the customer cannot adjust on the handheld tuner; that's how dyno shop make their money.

Personally, I don't think it's rocket science to tune a car. It's not like you need a college degree or anything. Heck, many of mustang owners here have engineering degrees and we are very capable. The only problem is that the maker of the tuners/chips are in cahoot with speed shops. So only the speed shops have the right software to have full adjustibility. A custom tune isn't a "magic box," it's just simple parameters that you set.

Definitely not every aspect. The tuners have access to stuff that users don't. However, you can do a competent job with a wideband only. It depends on what you want. The thing a tuner can do much better is improve drivability problems. $500 is alot for a tune.....a majority of people could do without a dyno tune. If your gonna screw with your hand held you need to know what its doing.
