I put a new tranny in my car and while the old tranny was out I never supported the engine so it just hung there. When I got the new tranny in the car and fired it up I could hear the fan hitting the fan shroud at the bottom. What can I do to fix this?

how do your motor mounts look now? is the fan hitting the top or bottom of the shroud?
i might guess your old mounts were about toast and then your endeavors toasted them all the way.

good luck.

I haven't looked at my motor mounts yet but when I drove it, it didn't feel like they were bad. The fan is hitting the bottom of the shroud.

im assuming from having the motor sitting there with the trans out it shouldnt really have moved, but maybe your mounts r that shot....id check into that

When I had my tranny off. The fan didnt hit the shroud. I just put new motor mounts on before I did the tranny. I also say check those motor mounts.

That's why an electric fan is awesome. Wish I had a 130A alternator though.

So how do I know that my motor mounts are bad? If they are, what kind should I get to replace them?

one sign they are bad is the fan hitting the bottom of the shroud.

take a look at them - sometimes you can see that they are sagged out or broken.

as for choices: if using parts store mounts (~40 bucks for both sides), get ones for a 93. they are the captured convertible mount design. or for 3 times the price you can get some poly's. if i had the money i might have done those......

Ok well I am going to replace my motor mounts... Now which ones should I go with. There are the convertible mounts, polyurethane mounts, and solid mounts. There are two companies thta make poly mounts, Prothane and Energy. Energy ones are more expensive but is Prothane good? And what are the good and bad about solid ones? Do they give off more vibration? Any replies would help. Thanks.

a search in here will reveal a lot of info (if the function is working).

solid mounts can transmit a good deal of vibes - everyone has a different threshold of what is acceptable. probably dont want to use solid mounts on everything (motor and trans). i would take a look at your trans mount now too - do them all at once. the trans mount is dirt cheap.
