Yesterday while driving my car I heard a bang when I turn the wheel. I did not think anything about till I heard the noise again. Once I got home and was sitting in my driveway, I turned the wheel back and forth and I could still here the banging sound in the front end. The car is a '03 GT convertible with about 21,000 miles on it. I thought I read something a while back about problems with the bushings on this model. I did not get a chance to look at it last night since I had plans to out to eat. I drove my F150 today, which sucks since NC is having record breaking 80 degree temps this week. Perfect top down weather. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks,

If the bang is only happening when you're turning the wheel I'd first check the steering shaft to see if it's hitting anything while you turn the wheel. The next item to check would be tie rod ends. Check to make sure they aren't loose (just give them a shake). When you shake them they should be firm. If there is play in them they need replaced. Also, check the rubber on them to make sure they aren't split open or worn.

get it up on jack stands and have a friend turn the wheel so you can pin-point where the sound it coming from. You could be contacting something when turning the wheel or the sway bar could be missing a bushing, etc.

let us know what you find!
