Help with Intake Manifold Installation

My 68 Shop Manual says to use new "Rubber Coated Sealing Washers" on the bolts when installing the manifold. Problem is I can't find any new ones and in fact there weren't any washers present when I removed it. Question is are they really needed? I have a '68 Coupe 289 2V. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Never used them. Never seen them. Never heard of them. Never had a problem.

While you should use some flat washers to keep from galling the manifold, and to provide a more accurate torque reading (if you're using a torque wrench) I've never heard of them either, so I wouldn't lose any sleep if I simply used plain washers.
