Help with Launching a 6.0 on street tires....

Help with Launching a 5.0 on street tires....

Just wondering what some of you guys/ girls launch your cars at with just street tires? I have 265/50/15's on my stang and i cant get my 60 down below 2.2. Im leaving the light ok but i either lose all power to my wheels, or i over do it and burn them. I got good last year with it but igutted my car and with the less weight in the back end i cant seem to hook up? Heres what im doing
1- Keeping the rpm's at apx 2500
2- Slipping the clutch softly back down to about 1500
3-"Atempting" to launch with some power to my wheels. <-- this not relly working
Any suggestions on how to work this out or is a 2.2 about as good as it gets with streets?

2.2 is what i was geting with my 89 1 1/2yrs ago

You should be able to get a 2.0. Heat the tires and continue the burnout right up to the line. launch at 1500 and step on the gas more as you start rolling.

Dont burnout street tires, just clean them up a little and lauch off idle and floor it as soon as you go. 2.0-2.1 60ft that way.

I do a quick spin of the tires then hold the rpm's @ about 2200 then side step the clutch, if it hooked upI stick with it or I just take my foot off quickly lifting straight up if the first pass did not hook up you will notice I make a pass to see which way to go but I always do it the first way I talked about on the first pass.
Do not lower your air down! I see people do this all the time and it almost never works. you need someone to look at your contact patch after you launch so they can tell you what to do.if the tires are leaving dark marks on the edge add air if they are darker in the center air them down I do mine 2lbs @ a time. I normally run a 2.05 to a 2.15 60ft depending on the weather. But the easiest thing to do is buy some tires to race on.(slicks)just my 2 cents

get 4cyl front springs and swaybar or just remove the front swaybar for racing.

Thanks for the input! Ill try a few different things i read. Im hoping i can get it down to a 2.1 if i can get it down there i should easily run a consistant 13.8 im hping. Drag Radials are coming soon so im just working with what i have right now.

Also for better trap speed air up your front tires more than usual like 40lbs.

Put some 27" tall tires on the front of your car,like a 225x70x15 if I remember correctly,that suppose to give you a little running start at the light and help with your ET.
I always suggested folks to run Drag Radials or some kind of DOT tires at the track or street when ever your car are making more power than stock,the traction issue just get worse when you are on street tires.

WITH A GOOD BURNOUT 2.0 SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM.I HAVE TURNED A 1.9 ON STREET TIRES. KEEP ON TRYING AND YOU''LL GET IT DOWN

Any experienced racer will tell you that it makes them "greasy" slippery and is a waste of time and rubber.

Don't even do a burnout on drag radials - - particularly if you use Nitto's. It will NOT drop your 60 foot. A clean-off is all you need unless you're running slicks.

NO way!! I've got to call BS on that one!! I've tried "ALOT" of different ways to launch and the best is with a good 3-5 second burnout up to the line, and leave off idle feeding the throttle at the same time you ease out of the clutch. DR's like burnies too. Ask Eric aka WaterPog,.. he tried my car with the DR's and no burnout,.... at least I laughed!!

p.s. Take this info to hart if ya want,... I was getting 2.02 60ft's on Grand Spirit Radial's with my "AOD".

Well with the Tires im currently running, ive noticed that when i drop my pressure down to about 25 pounds, and do a brnout, they do get a little more sticky, not a lot, but they sure do get more sticky. Ive not tried a burnout for more than about 3 seconds, so im not sure.With DR's i have no lcue because ive never driven with them... All ive seen is people heat them up so im sure it works for them. Im going to try the burnout, and leave at an idle, then jump it up to about 1000rpms, if they still hook ill bump it up until they slip. Thanks guys for the input!

I dont mean to sound cocky but i know i have the driving skills, ive run friends cars, 3 to 4 tenths better than they can run in their own car, i had my launch down good last year, i just cant figure out whats up this year, i never tried burnouts last year, so we will see if it works this year. I got cuttng the light down now i just have to learn to lunch the car. This part sucks. lol. Hopfully see you guys at PIR tonight. Lets hope the rain holds off..
