Hmmmmm well IMO a Trac-Loc is sufficient for street and some/most casual track use..they typically will last 30-40K miles before a rebuild,

As one of the Stangnet elders who "keeps it real," I value your knowledge and experience and would like to solicit your opinion.

In your opionion, what is the best replacement differenctial for a Mustang that has been reborn as open track car that tears ass through the Italian alps in Spring and Summer and sees limited drag racing? I don't want to go over a cliff or crash into a wall because of driver error compounded by understeer.

Based on your "limited drag racing" comment, I think a fresh Trac-loc would be fine for you. It would certainly be less expensive, at least here. I don't know what the parts availability at 52.22N 5.12E is

Thanks for the words, but as usual my competence only lasts until someone like Mr. Hearne blows holes in my half-baked theories

Ok guys, this discussion has awesome timing. I was thinking about purchasing a Torque-Loc third member on e-bay.

Now I am wondering what that really is. I would think it is a knock off of Traction-Loc. Am I correct?

No idea. Never heard of it. A link to the auction would help.

As I understand it, touching the ring and pinion (removal or assembly) requires special knowledge and shims, checking the angle of the mesh etc.

The question I need answered is if you can add a Locker/T-Loc etc to a 3rd member without messing around with the Gear Setup.

You can add a DL or TL to an open carrier, but not without pulling the ring and pinion apart (as I understand it, Ive never done such a manuever before).

The easiest answer, of course, is to purchase a chunk in your preferred ratio with the DL or TL already in place....

I have latched onto a helluva scam. I donate my professional services to US soldiers posted here for free in exchange for use of their APO. The shipping, duty, and taxes often were as much as 1/2 the cost of the new part. Now, I just order from Summit and ship to my home in the US. My dad then re-boxes and sends to GI Joe's APO. I skip the taxes and everybody is happy. Getting the current trac-loc would involve shipping it back to the US and then shipping it back here. More expensive than purchasing new. I have been thinking about a new Detroit Locker TrueTrac to replace the tired and most likely in need of a complete rebuild trac-loc that is in there. In my place, would you get the True-trac? BTW, I even get some of the more capable GI JOes to install for a really good price.

they say you have a 10 second, NA 289. If true, I figure you have to know what the hell you are talking about.
