I just intalled a new K&N FIPK on my 01 gt... now, whenever i'm above 55mph and then let go of the gas pedal completely (and not touching the brake pedal), the car would run with the momentum as usual, but one second later, there's an instand slowdown or drag as if the hand brake was engaged. i never had this problem with the stock airbox. Any ideas? thanks.

It is normal, there is a fuel_cuttoff_on_decel pramater that basically cuts fuel a few seconds after you let off the gas while driving. I'm not sure why it is more noticable with the FIPK.

Your car should adjust in a day or so and stop doing that.

Sure you reconnected everything right? Go check again.

Did you reset your PCM after the install?

If the sluggishness is coming on 5 seconds after he lets off the gas this is normal behavior. The EEC's stock strategy is set to cut fuel 5 seconds after you let off the gas if you are going over 25mph. If you watch it on a wideband like I have, it will instantly go lean, and will feel like you threw an anchor out.

Yes, i double checked everything for tightness/leaks and just checked it again today. I didn't have any trouble with the installation and everything looks good and properly installed.

I removed the negative battery line for about 3 hours during the intallation. The car also feels slower during excelleration, specially at lower speeds. This problem is really bothering me because I can't believe i spent more than $200 to make my car worst (special ordered it through Kragen and they have a no return policy for special orders). I regret not staying with the stock airbox w/ drop-in k&n filter.........

Anybody have this problem with their K&N fipk? I'm so frustrated. Thanks for all your help.

A good troubleshooting step would be to return it to the stock intake and see if the problem goes away...

You have to let the computer relearn the airflow and your driving habits.

Disconnect your battery again...reconnect & follow the instructions in the operating manual about "relearning the idle". Read the section referring to battery replacement & jump starting. My FIPK worked just fine after the installation..nothing negative..no adjusting. Check the connection & cleanliness on the MAF.

Like Kilgore said...if it is still doing that in a couple days then try the stock airbox. Also, check the MAF really well and for any leaks past your MAF up to the throttle body. You don't have to disconnect the battery since the computer will learn quickly, but if it makes you feel better then do it.

I know the exact feeling you are describing a second or two after letting off the gas the car grabs...not 5 seconds, but less than that When I put the predator tune on my car it does this exactly when rolling around 50-60 and letting off. However, after a little driving and shutdown-startup the car adapts and no longer grabs after letting off.

Regardless it shouldn't do that with your intake. I have not experienced that with any of my intake mods, including the JLT RAI which is similar to yours. Your car shouldn't feel slower either...maybe smoother, quicker revs, a little noise and possibly some slight high end gain you may feel.

I didn't experience any of that with my K&N FIPKII kit. I know you've checked everything already but go over all the Vacuum hoses again. Mine did exactly what yours did when one of the hoses(near the oil fill cap) was loose.
