I just bought a new rack and pinion for my 88LX. I open the box and find a 1 piece bushing with a metal sleeve insert. When I took out the original it was just a 2 piece bushing (one goes in the back and one goes in the front of the mounting hole). Did someone package the wrong bushing?? Or are they these the newer style?? The k-member has 2 metal sleeves sticking out for mount points, do I remove these??? thanks in advance.

Just changed the rack on my 83, It has the one piece bushing.
My 86 has the tube welded to the crossmember. Just go back to where
you bought it and swap em out. Not real sure when they changed it, but it was long before 88.

for what it is worth, the rack i got (reman'd A1 Cardone) had the same bushing you got, while my 88 GT has the same 4 bushings you do (we were in the same boat). i just reused my old ones, since i had the whole front end stripped to the frame and wanted to get it back together. i wish i had gotten some urethane bushings. oh well.

they had to order my rack. but maybe they can (or will let you) check different years racks and find some two piecers. good luck.

Yeah, I guess I am lucky, I got mine from napa, a ford replacement so hopefully they can fix this problem tomorrow and I can get my car on the road.
