help with radio install!

Hey guys since I bought my fox it hasn't had a radio. So my wife and I are both getting new radios but and shes also getting a dvd player to power the 4 tvs I have previously installed. My question is I have a 6 speaker setup 2 3.5 inch speakers in the dash the 2 in the doors and the two in the rear but all the wiring diagrams I'm seeing doesn't say anything about the dash speakers could anyone point me in the right direction also all of my speakers will be changed to kenwoods so no more factory speakers at all thank God.

Its an LX model with the 6 speaker option.

I wasn't planing on running an amp on this setup just the head unit.

Your local Pep Boys, Autozone, Walmart should have a plug and play wiring harness for your car. It plugs right into the factory harness and you just solder the other ends of the wires to the wiring of your head unit. Easy-peasy.

Personally though....I'm not sure if you'll be all that impressed with the sound. Most head units don't put out much in the line of power. It'll sound better than the stock, crappy paper units the car came with, but if you've got any sort of an exhaust system on that car, you'll still find yourself wanting more power to them.

Yep, the harness will provide power to the unit, a remote signal to turn on with the ignition, and speaker wires. Not only am I not impressed with the factory ford speakers and head unit, but the speaker wiring leaves much to be desired. I'd run brand new speaker wire to each speaker you intend on powering off of the head unit. In my first car (1991 Ford Aerostar) I installed an aftermarket head unit and some infinity 6x9s and they sounded OK. When I ran separate speaker wires to power the speakers off of the head unit it made a big difference in sound quality.

For the best sound possible though, nothing beats an aftermarket amplifier. Honestly 50-75 watts RMS to 4 channels is plenty adequate to provide loud, clear, and crisp music out of a set of decent speakers.

I see no reason either to run 6 different speakers. The small 3.5" units will pop and crack with too much bass due to their small size. You're better off with a nice set of components speakers up front and a pair of 6x8's in the rear. The advantage of component speaker sets being they come with a crossover to send the high frequency sounds to the tweeter and the low/mid frequencies to the woofer.

I ordered the headunit from crutchfield.com so it will come with the the adapters and mount plus I am upgrading all the wires to 18 gauge the stock looks to be 20 or 22 gauge. I'm looking for some amazing sound system and I can upgrade down the road and as for my exhaust its basically stock just rear cat delete and magnaflows welded in I wont have any more mods to engine performance for some time while I redo the interior, suspension and brakes.

my headunit is 22watts rms and 50 watts peak. which is fine for now in my opinion. I dont want to go crazy with audio/ video like I did on my wifes car

The door and dash speakers in the 6-speaker setup are wired in parallel. The dash speakers use a base blocker to filter out the lows so that the dash and door speakers can operate on the same channel.

You are better off running new wiring, but if you choose to tie the dash and door speakers in parallel like the stock setup, you'll need bass blockers on the dash speakers.

Thats good to know I've only replaced the rear speaker wiring for now but was going to run new wires. ill look into the bass blockers if not ill just use the stock wiring untill im ready to upgrade it in the future.

Component speaker sets > a pair of 2 way 5.25" and a pair of 3.5" speakers with cheapo bass-blockers. The crossover with the component kits are very well designed, while bass blockers are cheap junk

well finished installing the stereo yesterday around 3pm sounds good...

and then I wake up to it being stolen along with the front speakers and to make matters worse they broke the dash! well this is it im installing cameras outside my house along with flood lights.
