Hey dudes I have an 04 mustang gt automatic with a vortech. When I'm deccelerating the rpms go down so low that it wants to shut down on me. Today it shut down once on my way from work. Idle is good when standing and I have no problems accelerating. One thing I notice when this happens is the strong gas smell.

Check blower discharge bypass valve and plumbing. Initial reaction is that metered air is escaping and the EEC in enrichening for volume not making its way back to the motor.

FWIIW, if the idle is GOOD and the car only dies on de-cel to stop, think transmission problem such as locked torque converter (lock up torque converter remaining locked up during coast).

A long while ago General Motors had a problem with torque-converter clutches not releasing when coming to a stop, causing stalling. The problem was related, I believe, to a faulty TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid.

Since your trans was just rebuilt, you might have a similar issue. Perhaps things weren't spotless during re-assembly, the solenoid is sticking in the valve body due to a burr, a bad electrical connection etc.
