I picked up a slightly used cheap UPR catted X pipe for my '02 GT. When I search the forums, I read that there is a small extension (?) and a metal gasket (for the passenger side exhaust manifold) that is supposed to be used to not have any leaks. When it arrived I got the 2 pieces of the X and a small 2" or so extension but I see no metal gasket. Are the threads I read correct that there are supposed to be these 2 additional pieces (extension and gasket) and what is the gasket? Can I pick one up at Advance or a muffler shop and lastly, what he hell is the little 2" extension for (or is that the "gasket"). Ugh, I wanted to finish this over the weekend.

The gasket you have to get from a Ford dealership.. they are about 9 bucks. Most aftermarket midpipes come with one, but they tend to be rather cheaply made. You should already have a stock gasket between your passenger side exhaust manifold flange and your stock midpipe. If it looks to be in bad condition, now is the time to replace it.

The extension piece (the 2 or 3" metal piece of pipe) goes in the drivers side pipe where you connect the pipe to the exhaust manifold.. if that doesn't make sense, you remove the stock midpipe, then before you bolt your new midpipe to the drivers side, you throw in that little piece of pipe, it has a flanged end so it doesn't fall all the way in to the new midpipe. I have no idea why, it just sits in there.

Thats weird. I didn't think that little piece of 2" scrap looking metal was anything. I bolted up the drivers side straight up and figured that little piece of metal was just there in the middle to hold the bag of screws it came with. Anyone with the UPR use that little piece?

You were right on the money. It was $6 at the Ford dealership. I used the short 2" piece inside the midpipe on the drivers side. No leaks and sounds awesome with the Flowmasters. now all I have to do is figure out why I'm throwing these damn codes... thanks
