ok so my valve tick has gotten worse. the only diff. is that about 40 miles ago i changed my oil. 10w30 (the norm.) 4 quarts and 1 quart of marvles magic mystery oil (people told me it would help if one of my lifters was stuck) now it seems to be worse. my oil pressure is about the same, i was worried it would free up too much sludge and clog screens and stuff, but i dont htink it has, yet.

so do i need to pull both vc's and adjust the valves? i dont know anything on how to do this so any help is greatly appreciated.

oh and i know it could be an exhuast leak or an injector ticking, but i dont think it is becasue it gets quicker with more rpms until you cant hear it over the exhaust (2kish)

thanks :SNSign:

Is it a ticking or a tapping? Does it make the noise all the time or just sometimes?
I had a tapping that would come and go. My mechanic said that if it was a valve , it would make the noise all the time. If it comes and goes it's more likely a lifter hanging up. He said the only sure way to find out is to open up the engine.
My old motor had 12500 miles on it. It ran great besides the ocassional tapping after making a 1/4 mile pass. He suggested running a heavier weight oil, Valvoline coventional 10w/40 with a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. That pretty much helped.
Check your header bolts, plug wires, plugs, just to rule out any other possibilities.
Good Luck!!

check for a colapsed lifter, those have a ticking noise as well. just take of the valve covers and see if ya got a loose rocker. if you try and tighten it down and will not until it bottoms out, then it time for some new ones.

there really isnt an adjustment procedure for pedastal mount rockers. you can pretty much bolt them down and go

it could be a bad header gasket.

heres a trick. grab a small rubber tube, coupe of feet long, hold it up to your ear and take the other end and try to find the sound, when the sound gets its loudest in your ear it means your pretty close.

i though i had a bad lifter ones and a guy showed me the tube trick and it turned out to be a bad headers gasket. you might try replacing them if you havent before. its pretty easy.

how low? i knoticed my engine start ticking when my oil pressure was low, ended up being a lifter broke and the roller slammed through my blok...not to worry you... my needle was below the midway mark though....but would go to 3/4 when i got going
