I have a 91 lx 5.0 it seams to be running rich that is I smell gas when it is at idle and gas mileage sucks any opinions?

Start with the basics.
Check for codes-Check plugs and wires-check fuel pressure-vacuum lines etc

I'm betting on 02 sensors, the codes will tell you for sure. Code readers are very inexpensive if you don't have one. Post the codes when you get them.
