I would buy the GTO over the Mustang.......The GTO is on a limited production has MUCH more power and potential for power IMO. In time (soon you won't be able to drive a block without seeing a S197

The GTO is a steal @ 30k and the Mustang is a major rip at 28+K........
(I paid less than 28K for my 04 Cobra brand new), As far as I am concerned these two cars should not even be compared. A 8-10K price spread is in order between these cars. When the gap closes to 2K its insane.

How did you buy an 04 Cobra NEW for less than 28k!! I've sold cars for years and that sounds like to me!!!

I actually think the 05 GTO doesn't look too bad. It does look like a Grand Am and a Cavalier mixed. BUT I have to sort of retract my statement. Looks like I'm getting an 06 GT anyway. I got offered $9k off invoice and I cant drive a GTO to my job at the ford dealership. I'm gonna know I'll miss the extra 100hp but its not like I'm getting a Cobalt or something.

I'm picking up a car from the dealership I work at so I'm kinda limited. If they had a mach 1 or a cobra on the lot i'd pick it up but they don't have anything. I want something fast and better than my dammed '99 Ranger. The 06 GT fits the bill right there. Hell, a lot of cars fit the bill but its part of my taste. It'd be my first stang and its a healthy 150hp/2 cyl upgrade from my truck. So unless a good early model stang comes up either in cobra or mach 1 form, I guess I'm getting an 06 gt.

I bought mine in Sept last year while Ford was running the big cash back program to clear out remaining 04's (I forget all the details honestly)....

I was completely out the door for 28,700 (tax, tags, fees, etc) the actual price of the car was 27,800 after all the rebates/dealer cash offers

Problem is,

Tommy already has a Mustang that's modded to the hilt.

It's faster than both of them, hands down. He's not comparing coupe to coupe, but coupe to convertible.

He tells me this next car is going to be a weekend cruiser for him and his old lady, more of a driver than his 'stang, but why have two similar cars? Why not have the chance to go topless?

The GTO is supposed to get redesigned, that is if GM can afford it, in a year or two so the value of it looks to drop even further.

I say stick with the Mustang.

If you buy a GTO I hope it's a 2nd or 3rd car in your fleet. You better not plan on carrying anything besides people in a GTO. GM forgot to include a trunk in the GTO.

The GTO his a tiny trunk (7 cu ft) because they had to move the gas tank up into the trunk area to make it meet the US rear end crash test.

Not only does the Mustang have a much larger trunk, but the rear seats of the Stang fold down which make it real usefull when you do have to haul something large.

It looks like a million other cars on the road. Looks a little grand am-ish. A little like a saturn, a little like a lot of cars mixed together. VERY bland sports car.

The GTO performance wise is sweet... The 400HP is definatley appealing to all of the normal men around here... But let me ask you a question... Is there any way they could make the damn GTO look any better? I mean damn thats just butt ugly man!!

They needed to pump no less than 400HP to even sell the car to dealerships, let alone a customer off the street.. I just dont understand the Pontiac concept.. The Trans-Am's looked great.. They canceled my all-time favorite the Formula.. The FireBirds were also sweet.. I just dont understand why the GTO has to be so ugly.. Is this some kind of a GM step-child hatred thing? I mean, make the Pontiacs look butt ugly, to sell more Chevy's? LOL!! Damn, to be honest, 400HP is not enough for me to be seen in that disaster.. Now 500HP and we are in business... Cover it up during the day, and race it at night..

Oh ya!! One more thing... Are you kidding me about the stop lights? There is no way in hell you would catch me at a stop light long enough to glance over and see my face in that ugly car.. In New Mexico, California, or in Mongolia!... I would roll up the (dark) tinted windows as soon as you pulled up, and punch it, as soon as the light turns green!!

To oversimplify I'd say:
Mustang
Power= 8/10 + Looks= 9/10 Total: 17
GTO
Power= 10/10 + Looks= 5/10 Total: 15

Now looks/stye are subjective, but to me the Stang is much more attractive. It'd be cheaper for me to get the Stang to 400HP than it would be for me to get the GTO to look good. Some people love the sleeper look and the GTO would be an excellent car for that. It's just not me, though. Although that LS2 does make me .... Hmmm... if only to get an LS2 into a new Stang... [/blasphemy]

I'd have to give the Mustang a 9/10 for power, it is faster then over 99% of the cars on the road. And I'd give 05 GTO a 6/10 for looks, since the new hood scoops help it out a little.
Still, Mustang 18, GTO 16
