So, as I found out, I'll probably end up back in Kandahar by the end of this year if not sooner...but surely I'll get good notice as to when I'm heading out, unless something crazy happens and I have to go immediately...

Anyway, I had a crazy thought....anybody want a project while I'm gone?? This question is actually serious! :SNSign:

JT- for the first time, nothing crazy cooked up, just the frustration of not having any fully competent shops here in town for my plans, and the want for a reliable vehicle when I get home....a reliable vehicle with double or more horsepower than I have now

The guys at the shop I (used to) go to have never fully fixed a problem that my car's had....it seems they always do 85% of the job, and I end up paying out the ass for it....I'd like to start doing all the work myself, but I don't have the shop for it...

haha...oh god, you want this in list form?

Basically it's my engine, it's time for it to get the pull and be rebuilt/replaced....it's tired and I'm having oil pressure problems, and a couple of other things...

That said, I'll probably end up pulling the engine sometime this month if I get the motivation, and a beater to get around in...

The pay overseas is incredible...I have no idea where last tour's money went though...this time I'll be much smarter and save it till I get home.

Canada's soldiers get roughly 2500 dollars in monthly danger/hardship bonus', plus our pay is tax free in warzones, so it turns out to be just over 6000 per month...

Do the math, that's around 36,000 for a tour, minus any things you're paying for back home (rent, insurance, whatnot)

Whew, I thought this was going to involve a rolled up carpet and trip out to the desert.

Hey mang, were ya close, I'd help out with what I could (I have a slew of projects lined up for this summer anyhow, so I'll already be dirty).

A stupid thought: for what a shop would charge, one could buy a beater and drive it when ya get back - then you can have downtime on the stang. The labor saved pays for the beater (which you sell later anyhow). That is, if you would feel like wrenching when you get home.

I dont know how often he's talked about over here, but Rick builds a mean motor and does great bang-for-the-buck builds. Were I farming out a motor build, he'd be my guy. I dont want to know about the tariff to ship a motor across the border though.............

hahaha...perfectly hit my point, JT! There's where you guys would come in...basically, I'd be putting the car somewhere down there while I'm gone (i.e someone's yard, if need be) if we could get the engine built by someone like Rick, then slam it in when time permits....by the time I'm back from Afghanistan, I could just spark it up, and take it back. I'm sure there's be a few wrinkles to iron out with this plan, but it could...it could just work

I don't have the tools nor time to do an install but there is a shop 2 min from me that does a crap load of stangs. It's not a performance shop per say but it just seems as all the local stangs go to this shop. He did a cable swap for me really cheap and readjusted my FWA/Quadrant perfect. You can leave your car at the aparments I live at which houses mostly militry folks who's cars sit for months before moving. Drop of the car and give me the keys .

There's a shop here in Hamilton that does great work. He's got a small shop (3 bays) but might be willing to let you store the car on site (he has several sitting off to the side). It would save you the hassle of sending it state side, and is only a few hours drive down the HWY for you. Only draw backs is he doesn't work cheap, and is super busy.
