hid ballasts destroyed

why are some ballasts able to run directly off the headlight off the headlight harness and some aren't?
if you run your own power with a relay youre really turning on a relay with a relay from the fuse box.

how many amps does the ballast take for startup? if anyone knows..

check out my 5 month old fog light ballasts..

main question, i need ideas for mounting the ballasts, besides the inside of the actual bumper shock absorber with self tapping screws.

I would power them off the battery with a relay. I would not want to overload the OEM headlight wiring, its not too thick and im sure its pretty long meaning with excessive draw itll heat up

spend the $20 and get a wiring kit or make your own and then just tap into the oem wiring to switch on the relay

I agree, this is always the safer bet.

That should all be run off the battery and the stock wiring simply used to trigger relays to switch them on. They draw a LOT of amps on startup and can cook the wiring or shorten the ballast light.

That's the difference between good HID PnP kits and cheap ones. The cheap ones don't offer a relay kit while the good ones usually do (or have it as an additional accessory purchase)

You should never run a high current draw accessory (like an HID ballast) off the factory wiring. That's simply a recipe for trouble.

Like the others have said, buy a ready made harness that will run straight to the battery with a relay, or make your own.
