Hey anyone here install one of these kits?

http://www.stangmods.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=00067&CartID=1

Looks to be simple enough, pretty much plug and go.

Is there any other kits out there or a write-up?

5.0 Mustang and Super Fords had a write up about HID kits this month. Here's a link to the system they tested: http://www.americanmuscle.com/hid.html

HID kits are all the same. The better kits power the lights with relays rather than drawing power directly from the headlight harness. Less chance of burning up.

HID kits in fox headlights though = glare city.

+1…as well as pissing off people that are behind you. Just a few days ago I had someone with a retrofit "kit" behind me and the glare put off by those things is absolutely ridiculous.

Here is a cut and paste from one of my previous posts…enjoy.

It's my understanding that while it may be inconsiderate to other drivers to drive with your high beams on, it is not illegal. It is however illegal to flash from high to low (or vise versa) at oncoming drivers for any reason whatsoever. It is also illegal to have any light on your vehicle emitting anything close to blue light…as it a reserved for police and emergency vehicles only. I have heard of many getting tickets for having both non "DOT" approved headlights and for using the reserved colors.

Back on topic though…I personally think that the HID junk kit's they are selling everywhere look like **** unless installed in a properly focused projector housing.

Also, anything past 4400K is pointless as it shifts to the less visible blue spectrum.

Stealing some pics from a board member…you can see what HID's look like when simply thrown into a standard reflective housing.

Notice on the intense glare and the lack of any type of beam cutoff.

Compare the previous images to how the HID's are supposed to look...

Notice the cut-off line which has no light above it?

Anyways, here is a link on the proper way to retro fit a HID assembly… http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=670834&highlight=retrofit+hid

…and another link with some good information on HID's in general… http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html

HID kits are illegal period on the Fox Mustang.

The law states HID retrofits are only legal is OEM parts from a same generation model are used. That means say the '93 Cobra came with OEM HID lights. It would be legal to convert an 87-93 Mustang to HID only if you use the Ford OEM parts.

The SVT focus is a better example. It has optional HID's. You could legally put HID's in a focus only if you use the OEM SVT focus HID lights. If you use a retrofit kit, it's illegal in the focus.

A lot of guys make HID's "better" by retrofitting HID projector lenses into their housings. DO a search as tons of info and pics have been posted. It's still not legal, but at least you are cutting down on the glare and making them safe.

A lot of people forget the liability issues with modifying safety equipment. You take a big risk with things like this and smoked taillights. If you get in an accident and the person is savvy enough (like i would be) to point out they couldn't see your smoked taillights or were blinded by the HID kit you have...you could be found partially at fault
