HID's, best bang for the buck?

I am about to purchase some HIDs for my 96 Cobra. I would just like to know which ones you guys are using and which ones you think are worth buying. Right now I am leaning towards the VVME kits. A search on here lead me to them, and for the price it doesn't seem that they can be beat. Thanks for any info.

I've also heard really good things about VVME. Over on the Audi, mazda, etc. I was researching them and they had nothing but good things to say about them. The only problem that I've heard of is the glare in the stock mustang headlight. These are the lights that I plan on getting, Duel Xenon and fog lights

I too am looking at the dual xenon. I have been unable to find HID's for the fogs, I think I may upgrade to a better halogen bulb that will match the white of the HID's (4300K). What about the glare, I haven't heard of it? I am running BOI smoked headlights, not sure if that will make a difference or not. Thanks.

You are putting HID's in a halogen reflector headlight. It's gonna glare.


Most modern HID setups use projector lenses because they create a sharp cutoff line. halogen reflectors tend to create hot spots. Most people aim their lights slightly down.

Some might think their lights don't glare, butwhen they park their car next to a car with true HID's, the difference is night and day

Sorry, it may seam like a dumb question, but what do you mean glare? Is it just light going everywhere, so it blinds other drivers? I don't want to waste money if it isn't going to work right. I know there has to be more people out there using HID's, come on guys, what is good? Thanks.

Anything above a cut-off is typically glare. Where i live, people don't give a damn and put the HID kits in everything and blind the hell out of people. I used to have an 8000K HID kit in my car, but i got tired of getting flashed and didn't want to get a ticket so i took it out.

Bad HID kit

Good HID kit (factory)

Like i said, ride in a car with factory HID's and you'll see a huge difference.

Then of course, there are also HID retrofits which entitle putting OEM HID projectors into a halogen housing so the light is properly aimed. There have been several done on Mustangs with GOOD results. The downside is they are kinda expensive and take some craftsmanship. But they look good

www.hidplanet.com is a good website to learn about HID's, but they tend to look down on Plug and Play kits as the *wrong* way to put HID's in a car that never had them.

IMHO, part of the whole "coolness" factory of having HID's is having that sharp cutoff line. If the light is scattered everywhere...what's the point?

I have my fogs wired to run with my high and low beams. Right now, the amount of light is fine. However, I still have to put my smoked fogs in (waiting on a replacement set). As long as the smoked fogs don't really reduce output, I won't be going HID's. Only reason I am going with HID's is because I can't see to drive at night after adding smoked lights. Thanks for the info and pics, I really appreciate it. Any other HID owners care to share their experience?

Maybe its just me, but I dont like that SHARP cutoff line. Have you guys ever rode in a factory HID equipped car?
Let me tell you, yes it is bright BUT beyond that "line" its freegin PITCH black....you cant see a darn thing further up....and with lowbeams they dont shine very far. Its really hard knowing when to slow down for a place to trun around when its dark and you cant use high beams.

So yea, it may "look" cool when you park and aim it against a wall, but they just dont work all that well IMO. Maybe they needed to be adjusted better, but my retrofit HID into my 03 cobra shines much further out....and even high beams actually shine out better. Now yes there are some hot spots (2...they combine on high beans though) and it doesnt LOOK nearly as good or even where it does shine....but boy can I see! THATS what its all about.

And no, I took alot of time adjusting them....they dont blind other drivers. I have not been flashed yet

Mine are VVME BI Xenon BTW.

if you aim your lights further down after installing the kit it should take care of most of the glare.
make sure you wire them up with a relay though, you can buy a harness off ebay for like $15 if your kit excludes yours. I have 4300k up top n 6000k for the fogs.
imho the 6000k look 10x cleaner and have the best tone. ill be getting a pair for my headlights soon. so take it fwiw
