I want to get HID's from ebay for my mustang 5.0 and i was wondering if this kit would be good?

And also whats up with this hi/low beam thing i was reading about.
Now my HI's won't work anymore?

Also, what do i do to install if im not gonna do the whole conversion thing. I just want to use my same headlight housings i have now?

Also, for the bluest i can get what K do i want? like 8,000k, 10000k or whatever?

HID kits in non-HID headlight housing = glare galore

But to answer your questions...yes you lose the high beam. Most HID cars either use a projector that flips the shield up for the high beam or run a separate halogen bulb for the high beam.

As for K, Blue is around 8000K, 10K and higher starts to shift from blue to purple.

The brightest light output is around 4400K as this is what all OEM HID bulbs are. It puts out the most visable light since it's near white. The human eye cannot see blue well, so the bluer you go, the less you actually see

Alright....so you gotta get the projector housings....

Now lookin at the auction....do they look like decent peices?. i may be interested in doing this as well and am now curious.

Of course id have to get the right housings...thats established.

The projector headlights for Mustangs don't really work too well with HID's. They are cheap and not quality peices.

The right way to run HID's is to retrofit projectors from a current HID-equipped vehicle into youe OEM housings.

Depending on which route you go, the bulb size is different. I beleive the aftermarket Mustang projectors use an H4 bulb while OEM HID projectors use a D2S bulb

My question is how would it be alot of glare if it would go and turn into the housing like the halogen bulbs do?

Don't they go in and turn like the others.

My friend has an explorer and he got the kit i showed you, and ive seen his from closeup and far away and they look fine. not too much glare at all.

Well two reasons.

#1 is that the halogen bulb doesn't put out anywhere near as much light as a HID bulb. There is some scatter above the cutoff line on pretty much every style reflector headlight assembly out there. Since the halogen is weak, this is negligible. However the HID's light output is more intense, so while the majority of the light goes below the cutoff, the small percentage going above it is stronger.

#2 is different manufacturers set their bulbs up differently. SOme take into consideration the focal point of the OEM bulb and mactch the HID bulb to this point to keep the light pattern near the same. Other kits don't care and the bulb isn't focused the same way.

Virtually ALL manufacturers of OEM HID systems in cars have gone to a HID projector setup. There are relatively few reflector style setups on the market still. Those that do exist have measure to reduce the glare above the cutoff that a normal halogen reflector doesn't have. Even still, a lot of EARLY reflector style HID setups do glare. They passed the tests to be DOT-legal, but modern systems with projectors are far more advanced.

I've seen setups where a car can be 100 feet from a wall and still create a razor sharp cut-off beam. That's a proper HID setup. Every single setup i've seen where someone tosses a kit into their car's OEM headlight has created glare. I have friends who swear it doesn't but i guess my standards are higher because when we drive down streets i can see the bottom of trees being dimly lit as we drive.

I mean im just looking for brighter headlights while still being blue as i can get it.

I mean do you know any good HID Kit's i can use to put into my OEM headlight housing that won't have way too much glare. like you said certian manufactures set up their differently.

You know any good ones?

Also about having them go into the housign and turning to lock them in, do they do that or no?

And another question, waht do you mean by cut-off line?

Honestly i don't know what plug-and-play kits are good. There are brands like Hella and Bosch that are good ballasts to use, but most kits use cheap no-name brand ballasts. You could buy some OEM HID ballasts and then buy adapters to buy the rebased bulbs off ebay and use them.

Yes, the bulb goes into the housing and locks in provided you buy a 9004 bulb kit. The bottom looks like the average 9004 bulb, but with an HID glass bulb.

This is a proper HID cut-off line. Notice how ZERO light is shined above the line.

oH OK, I UDNERSTAND, well im gonan get one of the plug and play kits off ebay. if i get too much glare i will do the whole conversion. thanks man

I certainly hope that I don't run into you at night as you are going to be getting flashed like crazy with the amount of glare you produce...it's going to be terrible. You should just save your money and do it right as it's not going to work the way you want it to, but I guess to each their own..shrug.

just to be clear I didnt read any of the posts made by everyone else cause I dont have the time but wanted to put my two cents in. I have Hi/Lo HIDs in my factory style housings on my mustang and they work fine..no glare. I also have HIDs in my other two cars as well. Most good plug in play HID conversion kits use bulbs with a anti glare shield and dont put off the "glare" that everyone complains about. with Hi/Lo setups there is one xenon element with a motor on the housing which moves the alignment of the bulb and the anti glare shield and re-aims the beam up. you should be able to get a hi/lo for the mustang or a bi-xenon bulb..10000k looks the bluest I have had 8000k and i run 10000k now and they are much bluer. PM me if you need more info.

I got a HI/Lo Kit from China. In the instructions it says about cutting a 21mm hole but on their auction on ebay it say no cutting or modifying.

If you look at the healight bulb retainer, when you put the HID bulb in the retainer are those tabs in the retainers suppose to clip the HID bulb in the retainer then put the retainer on the back of the headlamp and turn it to lock?

It can't sit flush like the halogen bulb. ANy ideas of what to do?
