Alright so my car is a stock 2.3 88hp.
I dont really have a clue on where to get performance parts or anything for the 2.3 i useually run 302's. but anyways i was thinking of doing a turbo add on i can get a turbo from a 80's thunderbird since the local junkyard always has atleast 4 TC's but i was told that the TC's turbo system were really weak. Also if i do a turbo setup would the head need to be o-ringed or moded at all?

So suggtestions on turbo setup would be nice
ive heard of people making 400+ hp out of the 2.3's im looking for about 150-200

it has a degread cam and i read somewhere awhile ago that someone sells an all aluminum head?

ive already got the rearend and trans built for the power

any ideas on the most effective way to reach that kind of power?

If all you want is 200 hp...swap in a complete 2.3 Turbo engine and you'll be there.

Making 200 hp on an n/a 2.3L is a different animal entirely, and not really possible without spending wads of cash and having an engine that's barely drivable.

A 2.3L that's good on gas AND has some balls without blowing up the motor...hmm.I thought that a 2.3 would be fun to just work on.To see what one could get out of it.One thing 2.3's lack is low end torque,Even the newer 2.3's are very weak on the low end.I've heard of someone using nitrous on a 2.3 but even when the head was gasketed strong..it still wanted to leak very shortly afterwards.Al the internals would have to go.At least the rods, bearings, crank and even the cylinder head. And what Red_LX said....it's wads of cash..

200hp from a 200/250 is possible, and in a street car. And yes, someone does sell an aluminum head for the small sixes. There are not yet available, however they will be available in approximately six weeks. Several motors were built using the first batch of proto types, for testing purposes (before ordering a full production run). One of these was on the Hot Rod Power Tour last week and encountered no problems what-so-ever during the 2500 mile trip. Average mpg was 22, with a high of 27mpg.

We currently have a 63 Falcon that is street legal and runs the 1/4 in the low 11s consistantly. Best time to date is 10.95 @ 125mph. It runs very smooth and has a very good idle. Here's the latest dyno runs. The Falcon was featured in CarCraft and Mustangs $ Fords last year, when it was still running in the mid 12's. M&F plans to do an update with current times (since it broke into the 10's).

Run #1: Peak HP = 323@4500rpm, Peak torque=480@2750rpm.
Run #2: Peak HP = 318@4700rpm, Peak Torque = 502@2650rpm.

And pics

Here's another that is street driven and runs occasionally at the drags. Best ET to date: 15.28 @ 88.94 I ran the numbers through an online HP calculator and here's what I got, 66 mustang weighing 2748 pounds and completing a 1/4 mile in 15.2 seconds - 154.66 HP at the wheels, and 201.06 HP at the flywheel.

Here's another to wet your whistle on. No dyno test yet, but it is estimated at 400+hp and 600+ torque. Will be testing on the dyno later this summer. This 69 will be featured in Mustang & Fords magazine in the next couple months, just not sure which issue yet.

These are all top end builds with high budgets, but I just wanted to show you what can be done with a six.

For a low budget build, when we first built the 63 Falcon with a log head, we only had $1500 in the motor and were running consistant mid 12's. So it is possible to build a hot six on a limited budget, that will run as good as most SBFs.

Here's one more, which was on the Hot Rod Power Tour, as mentioned above.

I was about to say...he was talking about 200 hp, not the 200 six

Neat cars though.

You might check out some of the companies that make parts for dirt track cars. I saw this race car one time that belonged to a co-worker's grandfather that had a 2.3 in it and that thing sounded nasty! There's a class at the dirt tracks that run 4 cyl. (I think it's called mini-stock?) If I remember right, it had a stroker crank, Chevy rods, a huge cam, high comp pistons, an aftermarket head, roller rockers, and a header.

I've never been much for 4 cylinders, but this thing was just downright mean.
