Hey! I'm a noob to mustanga. I'd like to buy one, but I'd like to know which model year would any of you suggest for a V8 mustang that would have at least 100k miles on it. In other words, which model year (if maintenance done properly like oil changes and spark plugs), would give me the least problems.

What models do you like? I’ve seen high mileage mustangs from the 1999 up. Really they all have stout V8’s. The coyote motors from 2011 and up are really strong motors. I’d grab one of those personally. In addition there are big differences in horse power over the generations.

1999-2004 had 260 hp. 2005-2010 had 310 hp. 2011-2014 had 420 hp. 2015 to 2017 had 435 hp and the 2018-2019 has 460.

Something else to consider is that 2011-2017 V6 had 305 hp and gets between 25-30 mpg. They take boost well, come with forged internals and a limited slip diff. The performance package for that V6 is pretty sweet too. Finally the V6 motor was designed by Mazda and goes 200k+ easily.

Look for either a 2009-up 4.6 or a Coyote.

Early modular engines have spark plug problems...the 2Vs will occasionally suffer from spark plug blowout, although it's not too common. But the 4Vs have a much bigger issue with breaking spark plugs when you try to remove them.

If you don't mind an older ride, you can look for an 82-95 with a Windsor 5.0.

Thanks for the suggestion of the V6 - I was totally unaware that Mazda made that engine. Since I posted this, I have been reading a lot. One of the things I came across was Independent Rear Suspension vs. Solid Axle differences and it turns out Ford started to put IRS on all mustangs in 2015- I know that this is blasphemous to say it here; but Camaro SS 2010 seems to be a much cheaper option at the moment. In the beginning I just loved the way the Mustang looked. Specifically from 2005 onwards- But as I have become bit more aware of what I like and need, it seems the IRS is a must- Either I will wait to get a better deal on a 2015 4.6 or go for the SS 6.7- P.S. I am absolutely sure that performance suspension setups can come close to the IRS setups but it is just not the same.
