high miles on a stang

I am looking at getting an 02 mustang Gt VERT 5 speed with 79,000 miles on it. You think i should be worried about buying it? Drove it and TOB sounded bad. They want 11,200 out the door for it, what do you think of that price?

If you think it feels solid then buy it. If you are still worried, take it to a mechanic and get it checked out.

Price is good, TOB making noise is common but ask them to fix it and just for the hell of it ask for a new clutch and a set of tires.

Always ask for a set of new tires Dealers buy them like we buy sneakers...

Does the top come up evenly? If not use that as an excuse to have them go through and service the top.

If you have money right now "cash-money" as george w bush calls it, keep it in your pocket.

My best advice is that you should get the newest car, with the least miles....even if that means saving up $$ for the next 6 months. Imagine owning an 03GT vert 5spd with 40K miles...? That would be sweet.

If you do decide to take the car, definetly talk them sob's down. It's not that bad of a price, but i just HATE car dealerships.....private sellers are ok though..lol.

One trick i learned from my friend (if this is a dealership) tell them all the control arms seem to be "off-line".. They'll be like ..?!?!?!?WTF?!?!?!?

Just spit out stuff at them, like "no this doesn't feel right..the tranny is very stickey". Or you hear a noise on downshifting that can be internal (engine wise)..

Basically BS them like they BS you.

My TOB sounds terrible, but i haven't had any problems with it just tryin to ease ur mind

4.5 year old car.
80K on the clock.
Vert in winter.
Dealer price $11,200.
$8500-$9000 tops if it's sound. Any more and I would wait until Spring or go for a nice Fox.

I agree 100%.
If you know it's the TOB, tell them that there's a main bearing problem that's audible and that's really not good news... Or tell the salesman, "can you hear that low RPM gear wine? I can fix things like this but wasn't looking at it when I thought about coming to a dealership."

Tell them that you have 2 stangs at home but are shopping for a ragtop, and tell them to call you when they get a solid one in, but this one isn't for you... that from your experience, it's been ridden hard and put to bed wet! Follow up with something like "as a project car, I could work with it, but as it sits, you aren't getting that cash from me.

If I am buying a car with 80k I am looking for a deal.

at 11,200 you are paying KBB price. so make sure everthing is perfectly sound.

I would try to get them down to under 10k and get the TOB fixed. no pointin being upside down in a used car find one that is a deal.

I don't think 80k really way high milage but lets face it at 80k things can start going wrong. I would not worry about engine failure or anything to major but little things eventurally start to wear out.

$9000 sounds about right,depending on how good the body is,thats alot of miles for 3 yrs
