My '87 5.0 is having an issue with the clutch I believe? Whenever I depress the clutch to change any gear I can hear a hissing noise from under the car. ONLY does it when I press the clutch in whether Im moving or not. Any ideas of what I should check?

That's odd,i've never heard of it "hissing" while the clutch was depressed. It don't seem like it would be the throw out bearing making this noise. The throw out bearing only would make noise if it were spinning. When you press the clutch in,the load of the engine is being removed and therefore has no grasp on the clutch/TOB so therefore it would slow down and eventually stop after about 3 - 5 seconds. So if there is still noise after this time, then it is definately not the TOB.Perhaps something on the flywheel end.

You don't have a Hydraulic clutch installed,do you?

No I dont believe I have a hydraulic clutch. Where exactly is the throwout bearing though in relation to the clutch. I have to replace the clutch tomorrow anyway. Is the TOB tough to find or fix or is it pretty easy?

The TOB is on the clutch fork and it's what presses agaist the fingers on the pressure plate. It's a normal wear item with a clutch, so you'll probably see a new one with your clutch anyway. It'll probably be the solution to your problem right there.

To Maryland Stang (Hissing Clutch)

When I depress the clutch and let it out I get a hissing sound. You said something interesting. "Are you sure it isn't a cobra?"

i have a 2007 gt-500 Cobra I bought last weekend. I noticed the hissing this past couple of days. any ideas?

thank you
