Ok so here goes, I got this idea while in the shower .
Keep in mind this idea is based on logic and my understandings, i post it up so you guys can fill in with any info that i left out of my knowledge and understandings. Dare to consider! Remember if my "ways" don’t "Work" out that doesn’t mean that the idea is a failure.
So some one sarcastically said in a thread that they would even turn the turbo off when they didn’t want them. So I got to thinking.
What if you could totally bypass the turbo/s,
I was thinking you could have two electronic cut out valves, one in between the headers and exhaust inlet pipe for the turbo, then the other in-between the throttle body and the boost pipe.
When the exhaust cut out was open the exhaust gases would circulate through the turbine then out of the turbo, into the down pipe and out the tailpipes. When it was closed the exhaust from the headers would then enter a pipe that spliced into the down pipe thus bypassing the turbo.
Now when the intake cutout was open it would just complete the connection between the boost pipe and throttle body. When it was closed it would lead to a air filter so the engine could breath when the turbo was bypassed.
The mass air meter would need to be in between the throttle body and intake cut out so it would measure in both forms of operation.
This would only work on an engine that is not built around the turbo. one with like a 9:1 compression ratio so it could run both under boost and N/A.
It couldn’t have to big of induction path "I.e. heads/intake". This idea would be for something like a stock or mildly built engine.
The only problem i have run across is the air fuel ratio.
Switching from artificial atmosphere to Natural aspiration would pose problems with the engine running rich or lean depending if your injectors, fuel presser is set up for Boost or N/a.
The fuel system would somehow have to be a compromise "as the rest of the engine would be" Between running low to medium levels of boost and running N/A.
Obviously the stock computer would not do the trick so to maximize performance in both forms of operation and make the car drivable the engine management would need to be able to switch between two different mild tunes, one For Boost and one for N/A.
So there is my idea.
Is It practical? Maybe.
Is it cool? **** YEAH!
Is it expensive? Probably.
Can it work?? I believe so!!
I don’t give a **** how much money it might cost or how much more power you could make with something else or how practical it is.
I ask that you guys give me your input on how to make something like this work and to point out ANY flaws in my thinking and any technical data.
