hmmm.. Help me out guys.. vehicle speed sensor and parking brake??

today i was able to treat myself for some goodies for the car...... i got a top of the line radar detector, and an in-dash mp3/cd/dvd/ touch screen navigation made by pioneer to replace my broken cd player.... anyways, i hooked everything up except for 2 wires... one needs to be tapped into the parking brake.(safety feature) and the other gets tapped into the vehicles speed sensor.. does my car have one and if not, what do you reccomend??? ima ssuming this is for the navigation and the digital speedometer thats onscreen..

help would be appreciated.... thanks..

I don't know if the car has a speed sensor.. But it's for adjustment of the cd palyer's volume.. New cd players now adays automatically adjust to higher volume as you increase speed, since your car is most likely louder it automatically increases volume to leave one less distraction for you.

Found this in an old thread over at the Corral:

"The VSS wires are routed through the trans. harness. This harness would normaly route through the floor on a stock stang and then connect to the dash harness behind the driver side kick panel. The wire colors are O/Y and DG/W. The O/Y is the VSS ground which goes to pin 6 on the ecu, and the DG/W is the VSS feed which goes to pin 3 on the ecu."

Use a pair of vampire taps and pick up the VSS wires under the passenger side kick panel before they connect to the computer. Neat and easy, and no need for weatherproof splices.

thanks alot....... now something is totally wrong with my speedometer...it doesnt work at all... now would my speedo cable not being hooked up right have ANY effect on the VSS wire being hooked up to the navi?? Would it sitll know that the vehicle is moving???

do you really want to hook up the parking brake wire?

The vss is located on the tranny in the tailshaft where the speedometer cable comes out

edit:sorry a little slow :(

Yes, this thing MUST be connected to the parking brake or else i cannot play dvd's or use any feature that the unit thinks is dangerous while driving...

wow, you'd think that soomoene with over 400 posts would know that my 5 million posts aint legit and would help someone asking a question rather then being sarcastic..

The VSS sensor has the mount for the speedo gear, but the speedo cable does not have tp be plugged in for the VSS sensor to work.

Can you help me out on what i did wrong???? The speedometer on the screen does not work and is saying that the feature is unavailable right now.... i tapped the wire into the drivers side kick panel, orange wire with yellow stripe...... Its not reading the speed...... Does the speedo gear have to be attached and in for it to work???

Keep in mind that my stock speedo does not work.. ill have to check to see if the speedo gear is in..

EDIT:: ahhh i didnt read the post above.... i hooked it to the ground and not the feed... OOOPS//

The wire in which you need to connect to the parking brake should be green in color...and my advice to you is to ground that wire out. Then you can play DVDs while driving etc.

Oh and good luck keeping those two pricey toys from getting stolen. (DAMN RICERS)

Apparently you didn't read my post below that.. you know.. the one where I told you where the VSS was, and what color wires they are.. like you asked? You're welcome, though.

ahhh your right.. i didnt.... thats the post i used to find the wires... i didnt associate it with your name tho.. oops... well thanks??? lol..

anyways... I tried to ground out the parking brake and it just wont work.... when the engine is off, dvd's will work, but the unit uses gyroscopes and other sensors to see if the car is in motion... at idle, the cam shakes the car and will not let me play a dvd.... owell.. it has awesome features...... I got the speedometer to work and it also measures voltage and other things.... navigation works fine and is pretty cool to watch.. Its got other cool features and locates emergency vehicles, tells you traffic conditions and many other things.... thing works awesome despite the dvd usage..

Nutzy- who says seaside is my only job??? they pay crap soo of course im gonna have more then 1 job... I love how people get overly concerned and think im doing someything BAD, because i have alot of money... did you ever think that a close family member of mine past away and they have life insurance?? probably didnt... Im already doing something illegal... you guys are histerical.i work in sleeside at nights, and with my father during the day doing construction. I put a decent amt away for a house in the future, and all the "extras" go into my car...

You take it to heart..DONT. Ive seen mustangs on this site with twice as much money in them as you.... You like to show off the goods well be ready for the praise and the critique .... Im just as guilty with Xtra mystery money as well. I bet you live at home. Nothing wrong with that its just I spend 2000+ a month on my apartment and childcare so its different, but If I lived at home I would dump loads of money into my car.... YOU HAVE A NICE CAR.... there. :nice:
