Holding the engine up

How do I do it from underneath the car, I can support it in the back where it attaches to the transmission, but what about the middle section or the front, I am taking the k-member off and dont want the engine to fall on my head. I tried directly behind the k_member on the oil pan but it started to bend in, so I quickly abandoned that idea. Thanks in advance.

You can support it from above using a hoist or "across the fenders" engine support.

I got a piece of 4x8 board the size of the bottom of the oil pan and used a jackstand. Don't use the jackstand directly on the bottom of the pan though as you WILL bend it and/or punch a hole in it..

I've left it that way for a good 2 months and there are no signs of bending on the pan.
