holy hotness batman!

recently my stock cats and pipe were put back on cause my offroad h pipe was shot...and wanted the quieter sound for a little while..
i guess cause i have shorty headers maybe things got hot!

after i shut my car off i can hear poping,crackling snapping tinging and pinging clicking...from my exhaust cause its so hot!!!im thinking maybe the cats are clogged?or the headers are just too much for the stock setup?

i have a atkins digital heat guage and i took the temp of the headers and they arent hot a t all...any help would be hot
95 aode shft.kit,2600 stall,flowmasters,shorty headers mac,ford 4 10,undrdrive pullies,160 therm,remote fan,k n cold air.................

My parent Explorer does that when you shut off the car and it's cold outside. I don't think anythings wrong.

Sounds like your oil is bubbling in the pan. Many cars I have owned have done this.

Have you noticed your engine temperature lately? Higher or lower or same?

my fans on all the time and i got a 160 stat..my temp never goes over r
and thats when its hot w a/c on...
i took the initiative to test the temp so i know what that cheesy guage is really reading
when its on the middle of n its 160 o is 170 r is 180 that i know!!
it makes sense cause m=180a-190 l=200

i hope my oil isnt boiling or bubbling!!my oil guage is always dead smack in the middle allllll the time..im gonna post to see if thats normal..i gotta check my oil pressure but dont have right tools...

im saying...it didnt do that w/the catless pipe.and the heat from my engine compartment is atrocious.

its just the stainless steel pipes contracting when they cool after you shut it off

so this is normal?i never heard any other car do that unless they had heat issues...
im talkin about some loud crackling,,you can definitly hear the hollow sound of tinging inside the pipes meaning its them....
i guess im worried if the stock cats can keep up w/headers??and if the cats might be clogged??im sure when the factorys fabricated these pipes they made sure it wasnt gonna be heating to the point of major flex,under normal operation.....meaning i think somethings fishy and there is way too much heat...
what is the normal temp of a stock cat@warm temp??cause im gonna climb under there and find the hell out exactly how hot it is!!!tired of guessin,

IME, it is normal for the exhaust to 'tink' after the car is shut off (metal contraction).

an old school exhaust restriction test is to rev the motor and hold it, at say 3K rpm. have a vac gauge attached. if the vac drops within a reasonable amount of time (test for 30-60 seconds or whatever you want), that suggests a restriction.

im gonna try that..i just bought a vacuum guage..but never tested for vacuum??dont know where to connect it to?
my recent toys ,,ford scanner,timing light,vaccuum guage,fp guage..
for 100$ it takes alot of guesswork out and makes tinkering more fun than frustrating.

My Stainless Bassani Catted x-pipe does what you are describing. My stock h-pipe did it too. No worries.

:OT: but do you have any 1/4 mile times for your car with that stall in? I have a 2,600 stall waiting to go in and was wanting to get a general idea of what kinda times I could expect.

the combo of the 4.10 shift kit and 2600 stall turned the car from pretty decent,,to holy cow!!!its like going from a moped to motorcylcle..i love it..it makes the car alot of fun.i can chirp all the gears exept od,and the stall kinda makes the power band feel more serious..if im cruisin at 35-40 and punch it ,it will downshift and powerband goes nuts and kicks my rear end out,a stall is really for when your cam makes its power at a certian rpm then the tranny doesnt fully engage untill that rpm...which will get you aggrivated on the daily driving sometimes..not to mention you mpg going to hell.
as far as your 1/4 mile times improving w /a stall.........im guessing it might give you a couple of tenths if you time it right...do you have a stock cam?i wouldnt recommend anyone putting over 2600 in a daily driver,or 410 if you do alot of hwy driving..both sacrifice mpg but the benifits will make you grin
