Holy **** that was a BIG black widdow

So I open my hood today because I'm going to send me intake out with my heads when I have them ported and I'm just looking in the engine bay. I look over where my coil is mounted on the side and I see the HUGEST black widdow I've ever seen in my life. I ran and got the brake clean and sprayed it but I don't know if its dead or not. It kind of disapeared...

I destroyed all its webing under my car (which is new because it wasn't there last week) with a broom and I kinda "swept" the engine bay out a little bit. Is there anything else I can do to discourage it ?

Basically I guess what I'm asking is whats the best way to make sure its gone ?

I've seen black widdows on my car before and killed them but this thing was HUGE.... freaks me out man.... freaks me out.

Oh God.... don't tell me stuff like that.....

I know I got a good amount of break clean on it but those spiders are tough. I've hit some with a significant amount before and not killed them.

yeah he's right it's probably curled up nice and snug on your drivers seat. If I was you I would look into some sort of insecticide, I'm sure homedepot has something that will kill off anything crawling around in your car couldn't hurt spray it down even if you have to let it air out afterwards.

It was a she... the big ones are girls....... and black widdows are more resistent to insecticide then other spiders. Brake clean works great when you can get a clear shot....

ya wen i got my car i had a ton of them under my car like a ton so i just ran it went to walmart got some RAID well more like 3 bottles of it and i spraid my whole car down with that stuff and i havnt seen one since

i would imagine an insecticide wouldn't be the best thing to spray on your engine . . it will vaporize when you start it up and that's probably not a good thing to be sucking down your wind pipe . .

I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there.

I bought my car when it had been sitting for about 10 years. It had black widows all under it and in the engine compartment. They hide in the frame rail holes. I would go out in the evening and they wer in their webs from the body to the ground. I got rid of them after a couple weeks of going out at night with a broom and a flashlight and sweep the suckers out and stomping on 'em.

Brake Cleaner works too, but I like to use 9 1/2 D's

Break cleaner didnt work for me the other week I found one in my friend's shop. It was definately pissed off but wasnt dying any time soon. Also tried the bug killer stuff too with no results.

We had Brown Widows in a small shed. Used a bug bomb meant for a room about 4 times bigger. We cleaned out the shed and tore it down a few months later. We did not see a single living bug. Bug bombs could be bad for paint though.

And they tend to lay A LOT of eggs just before they die . . . whether they're actually pregnant or not! And their children take the "family" thing VERY seriously. They're pretty much mafia-like.

Dude, I wouldn't go near your car. You should probably get rid of it, but you could NEVER sell it now if you give full disclosure about the situation. I'll do you a favor . . . just give me whatever cash you can afford, and I'll take the car off of your hands--just shoot me a PM.

As for the spider, I'm going to check to see if the brake clean did eventually kill it. If there are no webs back by tomorrow then I think its safe to say she is dead.

Bug spray is not as good at killing bugs as brake clean. Brake clean with actually clog the pores in a spiders thorax or abdomen. Which ever it is that they breath through. It dehydrates, posions and suffocates all in 1 package =-)
