Homemade CAI?

Drivin' a stock 97 Cobra, and would like to let it breathe a bit....Thought I saw something from one of the members regarding removing the filter box and just adding a K&N cone to the end of the intake.
I'm the true novice...sounds easy...will it cause any issues (don't want any "check engine lights")

Should be fine, most of us do it on older 5.0's. Now the newer 5.0's is different. They require a Tuning device. Oh and try to do a straight shot to the throttle body, bends cause turbulance (less power).
