Homemade Subframe Connectors

Well seeing as I already have most of the suspension done on my car, (springs, shocks, sway bars, and bushings) the next thing on my list is subframe connectors. Looking at the weld in type the look pretty basic, and I was thinking of just fabbing up a set myself. My friends dad is a jouneyman welder so the welding isnt a problem. I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and if yes is there anything I need to know?Thnx.

O and the car is an 1988 GT, with LT's if it matters.

i believe most companies use certain types of steel that are very strong. so. id just buy a set.. full length, and tubular, with seat brackets.. is the best. i think

I made my own 4' long for under 25.00 for everything including gussets and paint...you can buy bare one for like 35.. on Ebay from Blueovalindustries.com

I like dubbing around so I made my own....theres nothing funky to em...

1x2" tubing, 080 wall or better....cut em 4" or so. 45 the ends, weld caps on em...hold in place and see where the gussets need to be made... bend them up out of decent stock...I have 5 gussets each side and made some seatbraces out of 1/4"x 2" wide flat stock...mig em on and paint them up...

Like I mentioned...they can be bought real cheap to versus making em...

ha ha not being able to effectively abbreviate is a serious problem
Just kidding man.

Listing your main mods could help when you have questions though...just an idea.

I have home made ones on my 82. A couple pieces of 2x4 steel tube does it.

You have to bend them at each end so that they mate parallel to the floor. The dimensions should be around on one of the sites others mentioned.

I bent them in a press, but a bottle jack and some two by fours under a truck bumper will probably do it also.

Welding overhead under the car with my flux core rig and not blowing holes in the frame was the harded part. Actually, patching those holes.....
