ok, i love the look of the hood pins, can someone please tell me exactly how they work? and where can i get them? also does teh latch come off completly? and any other info on thenm would be great. thanks
the latch can come off, but not a good idea. the latch is basically the only thing that keeps other ppl from opening your hood then. if you look under your hood and on the radiator support there is 2 rubber bumper things. those are where the hood pins go. you have to drill a hole in the hood. the pins then come up through the hood and you then put a pin(lynch pin or cotter pin depending on which ones you get) through those. i think you can get them from summit for cheap.
yup...definately keep the latch. took my pops and i about 2 hours to do and we took as many precautions as possible (didnt want to over drill). its a lot easier than you think. we put the pins right where the rubber stoppers are for the hood when it comes down. just opened those holes up a bit and put the pins in as straight as possible. then put tape where it will go through the hood and put some of ma's lipstick on top of the pin to see exactly where it will hit. drilled out that hole (kinda big cause no one sees it) then did the tape and lipstick thing again to get through the rest of my hood (gotta a lil space between the top and bottom and i dont know what kinda hood you have). we didnt want to make the top hole too big but it really doesnt matter cause the metal cover on top will definately cover any hole thats big. if you have a metal hood then you will definately need to put some protectant on the bare metal so it doesnt rust to all hell. all in all ill give it a 4 for difficulty just cause i used some tools that made it easier where some people wouldnt have
well power drill, a few different drill bits and a cone shaped bit to open up the hole a lil better. i guess there really werent any "special" tools but just some things that not all people would have but i guess you could get hands on them easily. just take ur time doing. i think it adds to the mean look and ive also heard horror stories of fiberglass hood (like mine) poppin up on people and i do enjoy goin 110-120 every so often so i figured it was worth it
Here are mine. They are the FRPP Stainless Steel. I utilized the factory latch but put the pins on for added security. I'm using a 'hair pin' clip without any plastic coated wires.
