Hood Scoop Oxidation

I am not sure if this the place for this thread, but anyways, I've had the hood scoop like this ever since i bought the car a year ago........i want to turn this into a DIY...is it possible? if it is what exactly would i need to do?......Here are some pics.....the last two are just for show...haha

dude, oxidation on ur hood scope, to me, is unheard of, this is SO strange.

you can get stuff at oreily's or autozone that removes it, I think its made by meguires...called oxidation remover, but im not sure how well it works

i dont know about that....wouldnt it require a buffer?....would it be cheaper to repaint it....if its possible on my own

My hood scoop looks exactly like that too, also the clear coat is peeling off of my spoiler. No garage FTL.

no it would be way cheaper to just buy that stuff and atleast give it a try. No I'm sure you could do it by hand.

And usually its best to leave it to the professionals to paint, especially if it's something like a hoodscoop thats going to stick out. It's not as easy as it looks.

Get it repainted.

My Mom had a Mazda 929 back in the day and it oxidized in a spot. I buffed it and it looked much better ... for about a month. It will return. Is that piece removable? If so, getting it painted would be cheap. It looks like in one of your pictures that it is through the clear. Once that happens, repainting is the only way to do it right IMO.

As for doing it yourself .. well, it is not impossible but definitely not easy. I learned how to paint on my own but it took about 3 -5 months for me to understand all of the variables involved in achieving a perfect finish.
