Who thinks the new stang would look better with air scoops? and why?

Do you think the mustangs with scoops look better??

Do you think Ford will put scoops on the 06 GT??

Yes , they do look better. Its the imports that try to imitate the American musclecars not the otherway around.

Of course, Ford will do what the customer wants. many Mustang loyalists want them back. You guys who dont want scoops will just have to get an aftermarket scoops delete package. (and you'll look even dorkier doing so) :rlaugh:

IMO the cleaner looking the better...

But, if the scoops served a purpose, ram air/heat extraction, then I'd probably go for it.

Though I think Ford should save the functional scoops and heat extractors for the special editions (Mach 1/Shelby GT-350/500/Boss?) and the SVT Mustang Cobra.

But they also sell much less of those special edition stangs than they do GT's and the vast majority seem to want the fake scoops , otherwise they wouldnt have been putting them on the GT the last several years.

So regardless of what some guys want, what sells the most is what will appear on the GT. (hood air scoops and side air scoops, whether they are functional or not)

Why is everyone so concerned with whether or not the scoops are functional or not? THey look the same if there is underhood plumbing making them functional, so what's the differnce? People are just SOOO paranoid of being called "rice".

Same could be said about the hang up with having to have scoops on it in the first place. Why does it need them? If they are not functional they add nothing. If they are functional it adds something. But either way at city speeds even functional scoops add nothing really. It's not about being called rice. Though you only need to look at the GTR threads where a functional racing wing got called rice. And how dumb is that?

you guys can come on here and argue all you want about how nice the stang looks WITHOUT a spoiler...

but the tough truth is that Ford will be putting spoilers on the GT now and in the future so DEAL WITH IT. :rlaugh: and you know why??? Ill tell you why, its cause most people think it looks better that way. (take a poll if you dont believe me)

If you dont like that then just take the spoiler off of yours.

Where were all these guys whining about wanting the fake scoops back again when the rest of us have been whining for years for Ford to get rid of them. Lets leave the rice for the imports.

Here's a reason: cost. How much could they have taken out of the cost of an sn95 mustang if it didn't have the fake brake and hood scoops? That's got to be worth a few hundred dollars on the window sticker (at least). For someone that doesn't want to see fake scoops on a car, like me, the thought of spending money on that stuff is ridiculous. If the hood scoop actually drew cold air and netted a HP gain, then I could see it. As it stands, it's just stupid.

The fake scoops are probably the biggest reason I have never considered buying a current model mustang.

I'm glad the new car does not have them. If it did, I'd be looking elswhere.

When I get my '05+, I will opt for the spoiler delete.

Are you kidding?

Thank goodness the designers of the '05 Mustang realize the merits of tacked-on scoops and such, and have provided us all with an exceptionally clean design devoid of all that nonsense!

I have a '98 Cobra will all of that crap, and a rear spoiler to boot! I would have opted for the spoiler delete had I ordered the car.

That's what I thought UNTIL I went with RamAir on my Formula. Contrary to conventional wisdom, it DOES make a difference at city speeds. And a very noticable difference. Here's why. A scoop brings in COLD (relatively-speaking) air from outside the hot engine compartment. Which is much more efficient. While my RamAir only works as ram air above about 85 or so, the functional scoop does make a significant difference at slow speeds. Voice of experience.

Of course, fake scoops are just that: fake.

Keep Mustangs free of fake, plastic, clip-on scoops. If they don't serve a purpose, keep them off. I'd like the 99-04 Stangs if the scoops were open....can anything look more Mickey-Mouse than a hunk of plastic sitting on your hood?

The days of a stubby snorkel sticking out of the round air filter housing, sucking in hot engine compartment air, are long long gone. Most modern cars, including the Mustang and the Firebird, already use COLD outside air for their EFI, drawn from either the fender area, or from in front of the radiator. In terms of just air temp, having even a functional hood scoop makes no difference. The engine still gets its air at the same outside temp.

Just thought I would also point out, that the Firebird puts its scoops on the front, leading, edge of the hood. That was a very good choice by the Firebird designers.

The front edge of the hood is a high pressure area. :nice: In contrast, the middle of the hood, where the Mustang designers put the Mach 1 scoop intake, is a low pressure area. :notnice:

This is why I liked the 2005 prototype with its hood scoops also on the front edge of the hood.

Did you ever consider that the major reason that more people bought the GT over the V6 special edition was that the GT has a more powerful V8 and not because the GT gets a fake scoop. And thats assuming you actually have sales numbers to actually back that claim up.

So hold on your saying "regardless of what some guys want", doesnt sound like you want an opinion just a reassurance of your own beliefs. Do you have statistical proof that most mustang buyers want fake scoops? No you don't, you have your opinion and maybe a couple of your buddies, which is fine until you impose those opinions of a few on everyone, and assume everyone or the majority of mustang buyers are of the same opinion. I seriously doubt Ford redesigned the new Mustang or any new car without any customer/enthusiast survey or feedback as to what they would like to see. However you are entitled to your opinion, mine is that if they arent funtional loose them, but thats my opinion and obviously many are of a similar opinion just as many are of the opposite opinion. However had such a major portion (as you seem to claim) of mustang buyers wanted them I doubt they would have been taken off.

F those G-D, motherless, POS, Ricey-look'n, fake, wanna-be, looks like a$$, frigg'n ugly, non-functional scoops!!! Period!

Also, what looks worse is a sticker that is supposed to look like a G-D, motherless, POS, Ricey-look'n, fake, wanna-be, looks like a$$, frigg'n ugly, non-functional scoop!!! :bang:

i dont get why so many of you are furious at the idea of non-functional scoops. so what if they dont serve a purpose... if people like the way they look, more power too them. i think its good that ford kept the body clean, so those who want the clean look will have it, while those who want external appearance mods can do so in the aftermarket. the legendary boss 428 had a non-functional scoop. the first mach1 had a non-functional scoop. some people like the look and some people dont.
