Hooker Headers ?

I have a set of Super Comps with the part # 6120 stamped on the mating surface. Now I know it's the right part# for II headers but mine have a bolt-on collector and I've seen others that have a slip-on collector. I looked up the part # in PAW and it references a slip-on connector also. Were there 2 versions of these headers made ?

As far as anyone has figured on here, if you have a set with a flange at the collector, someone has welded it on there. The set I have also had a pair of flanges on them.

But they appear to be factory collectors, not added after the fact. I picked them up as New Unused parts from someone cleaning out their garage. No signs they were ever installed on a car.

I bought mine about six months ago from Summit. They came in a "Hooker Header" box. Anyway they don't come with the collectors... I had to buy them separately and weld them on myself. Now all I have to do is weld the reducers with the O2 sensor bungs onto the old exhaust.

Probably, but why don't you just buy the Mustang II headers? They might fit better.

Yeah, screw it. I'll just buy the Hedmans. Consensus is that they're the easiest (using the term loosely, of course) to deal with. I was hoping for a less painful solution, but there really isn't one.

I think you mean the Hooker 6120's? The Hedmans have one tube that is routed UNDER the crossmember.

For starters, the Hookers cost twice as much. Also, I found a post on this board where someone had replaced the 90 on the Hedman tube under the crossmember with two 45's, and gave himself a bit more clearance from speed bumps. I also like the idea of the pipes being in pieces so you don't have to bust your knuckles quite as much.

Replacing the 90 with 45's sure beats lifting the engine out or cutting the fender wells away.

The passenger side pipe on the Hookers is 3 pieces. No.1 & No.2 cylinders are seperate and they slip individualy into the main collector pipe

My 6120's fit without any modification. You have to disconnect the steering shaft on the drivers side and I think unbolt the motor mount and raise the engine, or was that the passenger side? Anyway best fitting header I've used! Passenger side is three pieces, first two tubes drop in from the top, the rest goes up from beneath the car.

Twice the price, maybe, but I also believe you get what you pay for.

This topic has been brought up numerous times, since I became a member of this forum in 1999. You are quite correct Dave... this is an almost hassle free installation with the 6120's. I echoed your same thoughts quite some time ago, recalling the time I installed them in my car over 25 years ago!
Those finally needed replacement about three years ago, and I had acquired a set of Blackjacks for a decent price off Ebay around the same time, as I'd heard that the 6120's were no longer available from Hooker. The Blackjacks were much more difficult to install overall, and make sparkplug changes on the #3 & 4 cylinders a bitch....although they seem OK otherwise.
I figure that I'll pick up a new set of those 6120's at somepoint in the future though, before they do discontinue them. I too, think that you get what you pay for... and all things considered, they are probably worth the price.
BTW, I have a (new) unused set of Headmans too...if anyone is interested. Price would be very negotiable...willing to accept most any reasonable offer.

I had a set of Hookers with slip-on collectors on my 78 Mustang II many years ago. Don't remember the part number, but I do remember I was always re-welding the cracked tubes around the flanges. They were junk. Only good thing about them was they worked in my 351W swap with gentle beating & bending.

I'm the one who cut the 90 out and out in a 45. I works great and isn't an eyesore from the side either.

Rufus, that was on a set of Hedmans, right?

For the record, how many pieces did the Hedmans come in?

Me II and love it ---wish I had done it 15 years ago I'll resurect the thread If I can find it. The headmans are 3 piece design also. The 2 end pipes drop in after the the middle section (up from the bottom with car on jacks) is in place.
