Im just draged my 2001 mustang bullitt yesterday. I ran only 4 times and the best i could come up with was a 14.512 sec 1/4 with a 2.406 60ft. My problem is that my sumitomo just wont hook up. What are the best ways go get some more traction for the dollar. Are upr upper/lower control arms with 4.10 gears and 315/35 r17 hoosier dot tires capable of getting a 1.8 60ft? Any help would be graetly appreciated

4.10s aren't going to help you hook up any better, they will actually hurt you.

You really don't have any big power mods so you should be able to hook up pretty well with street tires. Track prep has a lot to do with it though, if they don't prep the track very well then you're not going to hook up. If you want to look into a set of stickey tires I would look at set of Nitto, BFG, or MT DRs and go from there.

I realize that the 4.10s will hurt my traction, however the 4.10s paired with sticky tires should help me,right? Do upper/lower control arms make a noticeable difference? Or better yet , what will help me to mid 13s?:Track:

seems like that track sucks...cause i know a bullitt is faster than that cause ive gotten a better time with my 98 GT, and i bet if you were at a good track you can walk the 98, or beat it, i dunno, you dont have that many mods too. but the tires i was using were Kuhmos Z rated, lol, thats what came with the car so i dunno how good those are. im more of a BFG kinda guy only cause they sponser my brother in law

Have you ran your car? If so What were your times

I did not make smoke but spun them up alittle

haha, smoke umm, not too much, although i see people make smoke clouds, but enough. And when was the last time you did a tune up on your car, because when i ran my stang, about 2 weeks before i did a tune up. New Spark Plugs, Wires (9mm), oil/filter( was running a synthetic brand, prolly mobil 1) New K&N Filter, fuel filter(felt a difference as far as the car actually driving smoother) clean all my sensors, and used of cource 91 octane. I felt a nice difference in my car considering i have done a tune up for about ....ever lol.

and where did u launch from ?

UCA and LCA will help but not as much as you think. I would start with tires and go from there, a 2.4 60' is REALLY BAD. Something has got to be going on wether its your launching technique, the track, or your tires. What you need to do is get your car hooking as it sits right now and then worry about the gears.

With street tires you want to drive around the water box, then just scuff the tires a little bit. From there you just want to play around with launching at different rpms untill you get your 60' to a 2.0 or better.

no need to smoke Z rated tires.

Track prep accounts for a lot. When using z rated tires, I always dropped the tire pressure a bit. Many people will advise against it, however it worked for me. 18-20psi is what I ran. Rev the car, dump the clutch, and clean the dirt and rocks off. Besides that, your not going to gain much by heating them up.

The key to good launches is slipping the clutch. It takes practice. Rev the car to around 2200-2500 rpm, release slowly until it catches, and hammer it. Each person you talk to will have a slightly different approach to slipping the clutch. However, you should learn how to do it if you go to the track on street tires. It will account for a lot of ET. Some times you will bog with this approach, other times you will spin. Its a fine line.

Upper and lowers may help to plant the rear end a bit, but a sticky tire will really help. I cut 1.90-2.00's slipping the clutch, and 1.85-1.90s with nittos with crappy c springs and tokico non adjustable shocks and struts. With practice, you will get there. Remember, a general rule.... Every .1 of a second you drop from your 60 foot will equate to .175-.2 tenths off your ET. Good luck!
