horn came on last night out of nowhere

last night public saftey calls me in my dorm to tell me my car alarm is going off. my response was its twenty years old i dont have an alarm. so i go down there and my horn apparently has been going off for about 45 min and they say they saw a puff of smoke. so i disconnected the battery and looked around couldn't find a thing.

now i have been having electrical problems involving my headlight switch i beleive it is the ground wire for the headlight switch but im not sure yet.

first of all is there any possibility that these two problems are related?? i dont see how they can be but who knows.
Second the horn comming on no keys in the car no one near it. i think this is probably the relay though i guess it could possibly be the actual button in the steering wheel.

any thoughts??

The button in the steering wheel uses a foam rubber pad. After a while, the foam deteriorates and the horn does funny things in its own. The fix is to replace the foam rubber with some gathered from another source.

for now, just pulling off the horn button and unplugging it should kill the horn problem until you fix the button

Mine did the same a while back. Just pull the horn pad, remove the horn button from behind it, and you will see the two copper plates separated by foam. Just separate the plates and use some new foam to isolate them, but allow them to contact when pressed. I had to cut holes in the foam to let the bumps on one of the plates contact the other plate when pressed. I put it all back together and it has been fine for a good 5 years. Sure beats buying a new horn, if they are even available anymore, for $50 or more.

yeah i had the same thing happen to mine it was almost completely worn out, i took a $0.50 sponge and made my own works great,
