Horn Contactors

I recently installed a new steering wheel that utilizes a Grant adapter kit. Since I had the wheel off, I took the liberty of replacing the turn signal/horn contactor mechanism. Everything worked great for about two months when I started hearing a scratching noise from the steering column.

After removing the wheel I discovered that the little conductors for the horn were completely worn away and the springs which kept pressure the the copper plate was what was making the scratching noise. I ended up having to remove the pins completely and now don't have a functional horn.

Has this happened to any of you? Any ideas to repair the part versus replacing with a completely new part?

You can't fix it.

You need a new turn signal switch and a tube of lubriplate.

You lubricate the steering wheel contactor rings.

No lube...bad.

Ya know, I didn't use a drop of lubricant. Do you know if it is better to use a grease that is specific for an electrical application, or would any type of general grease work?

use a contact lubricant like Electrolube or similar. Radioshack should have some proper lubricant or at least know where to get some.
