i have an 89 mustang and a 90 mustang parts donor with airbag. will the airbag wheel fit onto a tilt column? my steering wheel on the 89 is missing something in behind the horn pad. i can get the horn to work by pulling the wires off the pad and grounding one to the center bolt. i need to have a working horn to get my car through the vehicle inspection for insurance. anyone with a non airbag wheel to fit onto my column? thanx in advance

I thought of doing this swap before. I believe the problem you may run into, is that the 89 has a different ring around the outside of the column, between the column and the wheel. The 90 has a clock spring in front of that ring, between the column and the wheel. I think they may have made the offset different on the wheels because of that. Another problem is getting the covers to fit the column. They 87-89 covers are a lot different because of the tilt. You said something is missing behind your horn pad. What is it exactly, the clock spring maybe.

I hope this helps more than confuses, I wish I would have looked into that a little bit more.

there won't be a clock spring missing in the 89 wheel because there is no airbag. just whatever sits behind the horn pad to ground the horn wire i guess. a diagram would be nice. i went to my dealer but the pictures he showed were useless, parts are obsolete anyway to them. thanx for the reply though.

I know there is no airbag on an 89. But there is some sort of metal ring, that a few teeth ride around. There is grease that sits on this plate. I picture would be worth 1000 words right now, its hard to explain over the internet. I think the teeth that ride around that wheel, is what grounds it out.
