Does high octane race gas in older model non emmision engines create more HP or does it just allow you to run more advanced timing which creates more HP? 1969 351W.

More timing with no detonation. Alcohol engines make more hp though.

Higher octane in itself does nothing. You have to have more timing and/or compression for it to work.

More timing does not mean more HP unless detonation forces you to retard the timing from max HP. Sometimes advancing the timing cost HP without any ping.

Too much octane will hurt performance, If you dont need the extra octane you will only hurt your performance regardless of timing, or other variables.

octane makes fuel less volitle. higher octane levels allow more compression/timing before detonation, this is where you will generate more power.

If you dont have enough compression I dont care if you jack your timing to the moon, racing gas will hurt you not help you, this is a proven fact. also more timing doesnt make more power, there is a ideal timing curve for every engine. most engines need no more the 34-38 degrees of timing to make it's most power, regaurdless of how much octane you pump to it. Ideal ignition curve depends on many things such as combustionchamber effecency,i'e the quench, bore of the engine, stroke, rpm, piston design, you know all those things that help control detonation, SO NO YOU CANNOT PUT 110 GAS IN YOUR STOCK RIDE BUMP THE TIMING TO 40 DEGREES AND EXPECT A GAIN. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
