sometimes ill be driving for maybe long periods maybe short periods of time and ill take my key out of the ignition and both the cylinder and the key will be hot. it seemed to only happen on hot days, so i figured it was outside heat heating it up, but the i realized none of the other keys were hot. i remember hearing about a TSB on i think the ignition switch to be replaced because it overheats and catches fire... might this be the cause of my "overheating"?

thanksa mucho

It is an auxillary cigarette lighter.

I think you are on the right track.....

Oh yeah, it was a recall, not TSB. Keep a fire extinguisher handy......

Good luck.

There is a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire.

Copy down you VIN number and call the Ford dealer nearest you. Tell them you want to see if the ignition switch recall for Fords & Mustangs was done on your car. They will ask for the VIN number & check it against the master database. If it isn't in the datbase, then you can schedule an appointment to have the switch replaced for free. The TSB is #95S28, and don't let them tell you that they don't do that anymore...
